People keep posting this but it's history. People calling themselves "patriots" are lying. They don't actually believe in the constitution.

Democrats and Republicans are the same. They cherry pick it and spin it to suit their need at the time.

The "if it saves even one life..." argument is invalid on its face. If that was justification for any of our public policies, we'd be driving at 15 mph on the highway, because doing so would save thousands of lives every year.

It's really pretty simple to break down, when you step into the world of the surreal, and attempt to think like a politician. There's two reasons for this. Here goes... a trip into the mind (first person) of a politician, like Whitmer... hey, this dictatorial power is awesome! Also, with the economy opening (even in sensible phases) any virus related deaths will be blamed on... me. Red alert, we can't have that! Alternatively, with the economy shut down and shelter in place orders in effect, virus related deaths will be blamed on the virus. Situation normal; alert level green.

Other types of deaths related to the shut down are absolutely insignificant to them.

They don't care about the increase in deaths related to people losing their livelihoods due to this un-Constitutional govt over-reach. They don't care about how that will impact other areas, such as people not being able to see their doctor for things like cancer screenings, and other types of serious diseases. They don't care about increases in depression, alcoholism, spousal abuse, etc., etc., etc.

They will tell you that you're selfish if you want to let people provide for their families, which to most of us is pretty darn essential.

They only care about maintaining their power, and not being blamed for any deaths.

Well, their "cure" is pretty close to killing the patient. I hope it was worth it to destroy the greatest economy in the world, for their petty, personal reasons. And they call us selfish???

And that is why they call us "selfish".

Well then aren’t you glad we have a Tenth Amendment that generally leaves decisions about public health and safety to state and local governments.

Which, hey, is exactly how it played out with the imposition and lifting of quarantines! (Trump’s brief diversion into believing he had “absolute authority” over such matters notwithstanding).

Trump’s glad, too, as his playbook going forward will be to blame states and local governments whatever happens next.

Blame China, blame governors (Democrats most of all), blame the media, blame his advisors, blame the weather: These days the buck stops with anyone but the President.

Harry Truman would be proud.

You forgot to highlight the section in your meme where it states

"provided these measures do not infringe any of the rights protected by the United States Constitution or their own states constitutions and are not unreasonable arbitrary or oppressive."

Ayn Rand was right!

To be honest, if America got a new Constitution that wouldnt be too bad. The Current one is in dire need of a update. Unpopular opinion I am sure

If the citizens of the US feel the constitution needs to be revised, there is a process to do that. While it may not be perfect, it is better than any other.

I disagree. Your constitution is horribly horribly out of date and not quite in synch with the political, social and economic realities of the 21st Century. Might have been a damn fine Constition in the 18th Century, but not today.

I suggest comparing you Constitution to newer ones of succesful states like Germany

As I said, if the citizens of the US want to change it, there is a process to do so and it has been amended over the years. However, for 244 years, it has allowed the US to become the most successful democracy in the world.

The other point you are missing is that the US Consitution is not meant to address changing political, social, or economic issues. That is what legislation and laws are for. The sole purpose of the US Consitution is to protect the rights of individuals and the States, and to define the framework for a specific form of government. These things change very little over time. Individual rights are constant and inalienable and do not change with the latest fads.

As far as the German Consitution, I find it gives to much power to the government. It works for Germany due to the cultural needs of a society that is more rigid and likes to be told what to do. It is more authoritarian than would be acceptable to the American culture.

Millions have given their lives protecting that little piece of paper, because of what it stands for and the rights enumerated within it.

that's correct but a bit off the point.

The point is that the Consitution should never be ignored and people's rights should never be infringed for any reason.

Killing people is an infringement of their rights and is illegal in the United States. If it were to got to the Supreme Court, which right would they deem more vital?

Your comment doesn't make sense.

Who is killing them? Who would be the accused?

It is illegal for one person to kill another, there is no law protecting you from catching a disease. If you are that concerned that you will catch some disease if you go outside, you have the right to stay home. I believe that fear is called Agoraphobia.

Assigning responsibility for killing to the virus is like assigning murderous intent to a gun. Can you imagine? Pretend for a moment that the virus was created and/or released maliciously. How could a government be guilty of such a thing but not Americans (or anyone) who knowingly spread it?

Assigning fear as a motive to people who are trying to save the lives of others is unworthy. I think everyone can be worthy if they decide to try.

Suppose that you're a pretty bright person who is just a bit off course, swayed by political allegiance. You could decide RIGHT NOW to correct course and start saving lives. I'm gonna make dinner now but I will leave that offer on the table ( :

Sorry, but your argument is fallacious. You were the one assigning murderous intent to the virus.

My argument is that there is no circumstance in which the rights of the individual should be infringed and that the State does not have the right to impose restrictions upon those rights.

I agree an argument does require logical statements. Thinking SCOTUS can decide a case against a virus is not logical.
