There are a lot of differences between 2009 H1N1 and COVID-19.
1- those deaths were over the course of an entire year. So, that's roughly 1,000 fatalities in the US per month over the course of a year. Let's assume a similar dispersal pattern as what we have now, so some states would have had 0 fatalities.

2- A plan was put forward right away. A Public Health Emergency was declared 2 weeks after first cases were detected.

3- Vaccines were fast tracked (and developed within 6 months).

By comparison- 82,000 people in the US alone have died from COVID-19.

1) after the first case was detected Trump.... what? closed down some travel- not all- some travel from China.
2) repeatedly claimed this was a DNC hoax. That "very soon cases would go down to 0" or that in April "it would just go away."
3) he has floated nonsens medication "like a gift from God" that hasn't been tested and was ineffective.
4) mused about injecting cleaning fluid into people or exposing them to light or some shit on live tv.
5) eventually declared a national emergency.
6) claimed "he was a backup"
7) refused to put forward a national plan, left it to the states to declare social distancing.
8) put forward guidelines when states could re-open then actively encouraged people to break those guidlines.

Those 80K people died because of his failure.

What other countries do or don't do doesn't excuse Trump's bad behavior. This is classic whataboutism.

While China arguably delayed notifying the world for several weeks in December 2019, China robustly contained it after that. Many other countries have successfully done the same. Our outbreak is the world's worst largely because of our leadership, and the blame starts at the top.

Trump is our President and he's accountable to we the people. If we don't like the job he's doing (and many of us don't), then it's our job to say something about it and elect a new one.

While I hate California, being such a large economy, they should have a high quality rail system. I really can't speak much on it. I'm not a environment nut but it makes sense to cut down vehicle travel.
