Sad to admit, but true. I think the lockdown is utter b.s. but other than a few memes about it and complaining online, I'm cooperating fully, because I qualify for unemployment benefits, which now also give an extra 600 on top. Part of me can't wait for this to be over, and the other part wants to build up my savings account.

I’m still employed, so I’m thankful for that. My wife works from home and we are forcing family members to volunteer to take care of our two girls. Here in West Texas things are pretty bad but we have a lot to be thankful for.

you'll catch up, i'm sure, but why don't you take care of your young people in this time of financial stress?

We are. By allowing them to earn money to pay their bills. Making Americans homeless is no way to solve a major health issue... And that's coming. The courts are being filled with foreclosures and evictions filings right now. And as soon as someone let's up on the moratorium, these will be released.

taking actions that you know (or should know) will spike the death toll is no way to solve it either. people losing their homes or being evicted did not have even a one-month plan for a financial emergency like this. who will be paying for that? seniors and other at-risk people.

Most Americans, unfortunately, don't save money. If the elderly find themselves dependent on their kids, then it becomes catastrophic when the kids lose everything. Many are at risk of losing everything right now, not because they were bad with their money, but because the government took their source of income away and labeled them non-essential. Housing is essential and soon there's going to be a lot of empty ones.

You are very bad at chess ain't you? Cant think for yourself nor think about planning ahead. Just let the media do the thinking for you and let their word pollute your brain.

okay read over and over the conversation you had with Pascalean, and think about what you just said, what went wrong, and what could have been said better. let the very valid points he made to you dwell in your head, let it marinate your brain. Ain't that what chess players do when they lose a game?

my dear new friend, I followed all his points since they were not meant to confuse or complicate and I did not mean to suggest they were all invalid. but i thought you conservatives were all about people taking responsibility for themselves and their decisions. the government that made a lot of bad decisions here was elected by the people. the young folks who suddenly can't make their mortgage or rent payments got themselves in that situation by not planning for problems like this one. Pascalean didn't provide any argument that really lets people off the hook for decisions they made or plans they failed to make. why should other people have to pay for that with their lives?
1 up, 4y,

So your argument is people should stay away from work at home and hope that money will magically start to grow from trees to sustain them? Ain't it responsibility to get out of your home to work so that you can provide for your family? "but i thought you conservatives were all about people taking responsibility for themselves and their decisions" Yes we are responsible. It is not just the young people who can't make the mortgage payments, that just shows how detached you are from reality. It is the middle age group and older as well, this affects all working ages, not just the young ones who just got out of college and ALSO have to pay student loans, bet you didn't factor that in your argument. You are basing your argument from the fear that your media has given you, you are so very detached from reality. Have you compared to influenza and other similar virus? Here educate yourself: https://www.livescience.com/new-coronavirus-compare-with-flu.html So you are basically saying it is okay to destroy the economy, have people unemployed which increases crimes, depression and suicide rates, for what? For a virus that is just as bad as the flu! If you can't see that fact, my friend you are REALLY detached from reality, you need to stop watching TV and get out some. Also here is a shocker for you, viruses is nature's way to deal with over population. Yes, everyone is going to die regardless at some point, it is not the length of life what is important but the quality, and right now people's quality of life has been compromised imprisoned in their own homes. Look at all the news about how much less air and water pollution we have now with less human interactions.

well you seem pretty worked up for somebody who's probably not going to die over this. imagine how worked up they must be.

anyway, it looks like i was overly optimistic in seeing you as my new dear friend. my new dear friend would never put thoughts in my head and words in my mouth like you gents do so you can then chastize me in the next sentence for all those crazy thoughts and words.

maybe i'll meet someone nice at the park today ( :

You're like a JFK liberal who wants to help the less-fortunate, not a 2020 Karen Liberal who is entitled and thinks she deserves everything.

JFK liberals are good, Karens are bad

I know, I classify those as the JFK liberals, which today, don't really count as liberals anymore. Well maybe liberals, but certainly not Democrats.

If JFK were alive today, liberals would call him a bigot. JFK wouldn't be a Democrat in 2020.

Definitely. The (false) correlation between Liberals/Democrats and Conservatives/Republicans has been spread for so long I catch myself using the incorrect terms at times, which is sad. I like to think I'm pretty aware of the media's political manipulation (majored in broadcast communications and political science), but I make the mistake more than I'd like to admit. Then I think if someone who is slightly educated in the area mixes it up, what does that say for most people who have not studied it?

The GOP isn't even conservative in the sense that term used to mean, I personally see libertarians as the most conservative group.

No. Just the condescending remarks made about people who are also trying to stay safe, work, and provide for their family as well. You and I are classified as "essential" but the entire well being of our country...the world even, relies of the services of everyone. We should be seeking to shelter the "at risk" people rather than those who are likely to recover or have no symptoms, and that is the frustrations being shouted out right now. Why should I or anyone loose our house, health insurance, financial and overall well being, because my neighbor is at risk. Wouldn't it be easier for everyone to pitch in and help this small group out, rather than bankrupt the entire economy to the extent that no one is able to help anymore? Hospitals and doctor offices are closing their doors right now, because they can't treat minor non-life threatening situations. Many of the unemployed are health care workers themselves. Why am I "essential" and all these people not? Those same hospitals are needed to treat Covid patients. If they go under how do these people get treated? That's what's happening right now unless these restrictions get lifted responsibly. I'm not one of those who believe the virus is a hoax, but I believe the dominoes that are falling right now are going to be far worse than the virus on a local and global scale.
1 up, 4y
The virus is not a hoax. No thinking person ever said that. The panic created by the Main Stream Media TDS crowd is the hoax.

Someone once said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Guidelines for or any flu season are the same. I don't shake hands, wash my hands often, avoid sick people and stay home when I am sick.
