I think it's because the attacks on Hillary are actually credible and do not falter to scrutiny, while her critical words towards Trump are just a lot of repeat talking points from the MSM. I mean Hillary called her a Russian Asset without any concrete proof. Tulsi is right to be upset and sue her. The Trump critique is the same critiques we have heard for the past four years.

I didn't sleep at all when people presented critiques of Trump in 2016 because they were fresh and had not yet been put up to the light of scrutiny. Then the tenth time you hear something you kinda go "meh, heard this before." Imagine trying to stay awake while I try to reteach you the ABC song for an hour. Your meme is incredibly factual but I don't think many people actually understand the actual reasoning behind it. This is scary to me because for all I know the next "racist story" might be credible, but half the public will just ignore it as the boy who cried wolf.

HRC should not have called Tulsi a Russian asset without proof. I understand why Tulsi’s upset and HRC deserves the criticism.

However, an actual defamation case about this could create troubling precedent as far as political speech is concerned. Everyone knows that political rhetoric gets heated and indeed people toss out even outright lies about politicians all the time. Even Trump himself has done this by trafficking in birther tropes: Obama was a Muslim born in Kenya, etc. And Trump has said plenty of other mean things besides.

What happens if we let politicians bring claims of defamation against those who disagree with them? Need to be careful in matters like this to protect our right of free speech which is totally fundamental to protect in an area such as criticizing politicians.

I completely agree with you on the free speech sentiment. The danger here is that HRC comments crosses over into liable, as did Trump's Kenya comment. I don't think either were appropriate. Free speech should always be unrestricted, but the speaker needs to be held accountable to the consequences. That's honestly my take.
