either way you look at it, The General Was a terrorist in Americas Eyes, And Donald Trump Is a terrorist in Iraq's/Iran's Eyes, Violence Only ever Ends in violence, and its always the innocents that suffer the consequences

Depending on how you interpret "we're mass murdering terrorists", it could also be from our own perspective.

That's usually what evil says about those combating it.

If you don't know the answer to that, I can't help you and it just proves my point about the left and their support for terrorist regimes.

"Terrorist regimes" is a matter of perspective, and given the USA's role in creating them, a convoluted one at that.

The United States isn't the only country in the history of the world that set alliances with other countries to take down a much bigger threat. The 80's and Reagan is an example of this. You deal with the threat you have at your doorstep first, then deal with the threat in the street in front of your house.

Sure, the UK and Russia have set up puppet regimes too.

Reagan did what?

Let’s just start with the fact that they killed thousands of people because they don’t like our way of government

That's silly.

The question is not all that important, honestly.

The USSR was “evil.” We successfully contained them until their government collapsed.

We should do the same with Iran. A hot war, let alone a full-scale invasion, would be a mistake and is not supported by the American public, or the vast majority of our international allies.

I do not support a war unless the war is necessary and justified. But as for the question of who is evil and who isn't, it depends on who you ask what evil is. I believe evil are those who murder tens of thousands, if not millions, of their own people and those who oppose them. Murdering in the name of your god is evil.

The US has killed or spurred and fostered the killing of far more, and in the name of the God called money. That includes backing or directly orchestrating regime change in Iran THREE times in the 20th Century as we had done in several others.
Surprise, their animosity does not come from them simply being a naughty people.

No, they're just evil regardless. They murder their own people en masse. Doesn't matter who is in charge. Our government, as a whole, is bad as well, but they have yet to start mass murdering their own citizens for speaking out against them. That's why the Constitution is so important. Keeps the government in check for the most part.

You mean like the way we treated captured Confederate soldiers in the Civil War, or Native Americans even after shunted to reservations created by treaty, or what happened in Kent State?

Doesn't excuse Iran that went from one cruel ruler (and our puppet) to an even worse one, but our hands are hardly clean.

Plus how does that excuse us from meddling with or invading other countries for no reason? 100,000 Guatemalans died in a civil war engineered by the CIA, 50,000 additional are still missing, no doubt sunbathing in Tahiti or some crap. Why? For the sake of The United Fruit Company which owned Chiquita Bananas. Yes, 150,000 dead for the sake of bananas.

But that's nothing compared to how many Iranians died in the Persian Famine of 1917-19 so the British can cart their food away. 8 - 10 million - that's MILLION - half the country. They watched as their food that they grew was carted away. That's one little Holocaust they don't teach us in history class.

Also, WE'RE responsible for Khoemeni & the Ayatollahs taking over. Only he didn't turn out to be the dutiful little puppet hoped him to be.

I never said our past isn't flawed. We did some horrid things. But to say our country is the cause of the world's problems is wrong. We've come a long way since those days.
2 ups, 5y
Not that we're responsible for all (nor that we haven't done tremendous good for others), but we've done more than just about anybody. And as with the topic of discussion, we're still doing it tomorrow.

Why do you say we should contain Iran?

And the USSR was hardly contained, btw.

Iran does have expansionist tendencies. If Iran get a nuclear bomb then everyone else in the region is going to freak out and want nukes, too.

The concept of containing Iran and pushing them away from seeking to acquire nukes through diplomacy was the correct one, and the only one that stood a chance of keeping a lid on the Middle East and all its violent factions. The biggest one being the Sunni-Shia divide.

Now Iran is not going to be deterred from seeking nuclear weapons. And the chances of WWIII eventually breaking out in the ME — today, tomorrow, or 10-20 years from now — have risen significantly.

The USSR was contained enough. We sure made mistakes during the Cold War, but we played our hand better than they did and they collapsed without us firing a shot (directly at them, that is).

Iraq, the so-called Arab Emirates on the western side of the Persian Gulf, all those countries and regions ending with "stan," and extending all the way to Georgia and to this day still Farsi speaking Ossetia were not too long ago part of Iran. In the long run - not tomorrow as we're accustomed to - Afganistan and much of Iraq would be better off back in the Empire.

If ISRAEL - you know, the country the rest of the region has a mutual interest in hating, gets nukes everyone else will want - oh, wait, they've had them since the 70s but it's a secret so skip the false fear and Pakistan is a far greater danger to its east and west.

WWIII is not breaking out in the ME or Central Asia, that's just silly, and certainly not over this. Can't rule out war now because we're dealing with 2 sets of idiotic megalomaniacs: Trump & and the Ayatollahs. But full scale is doubtful, more like lobbing a couple of missiles at soft targets unless Trump is truly that out of it and the military goes along. In which case the enemy within is a greater danger to us than a broke irritable heap of has beens dwellling on glories of 2600 years ago. Tanks? Planes? Ships? pffffffft, all they have is missiles they got from North Korea. The only thing Iran is a danger to itself.

70% of the grain the USSR consumed came from the USA. We could of ended them in under 2 years by pulling that plug. Sure, they might have pulled a Germany and invaded the rest of Europe, but that still wasn't gonna get much more grain in their bakeries.

The Cold War was a fake war. 1984, that allegory about the USSR? Hogwash, it was about the whole world divided into 3 powers that utilized the same bs to control their people with eternal fake wars and propaganda. THAT'S what the Cold War was.

Since that ended, guess who we've been drafting as the new bogeyman?
HINT: Rhymes with "Iran"

Four decades, and Iran hasn't done crap yet except get one of their generals killed because, um, something.
