It does. The school's decision was immediately overturned, the staff apologized, and rightfully so.

the fact that he was suspended in the first place was a violation. some admin acted. saying "sorry" makes it ok?

We have not yet perfected the art of time travel, if it's even possible. Even then that's not an ideal feasible solution no matter which sci-fi theory you subscribe to. You'll either create a paradox or a separate timeline with no impact on your own.

Quantum theory, aside...

People make mistakes. If they did not, people wouldn't learn and become better people than what they were.

"People make mistakes. If they did not, people wouldn't learn and become better people than what they were." Gotcha.. I am going to hold you to that statement .. Does that go for all people?

"Gotcha.. I am going to hold you to that statement .. Does that go for all people?"

Nothing more than what I would expect of someone of your maturity. I already asked you what should be done and you unreasonably stated that it should never had happened in the first place. So, I gave you a simple comforting statement that was reasonably attributed to the context and now you expect it to apply to any scenario no matter how complex.

Yes, there are consequences for mistakes. Those consequences should reflect the severity of the mistake made.

Well, time for teen to look for another school. Consider this sign a red flag.

While being suspended is over the top and not warranted, freedom of speech doesn't work this way.

Whoa. How does 'freedom of speech' work? It's okay if it doesn't offend YOU?

It's a school. Duh.

Admin decides appropriateness.

In other words, admin suppressed the teen’s freedom of speech when they feel it’s inappropriate.

Got it.
1 up, 4y
Yeah, that's exactly what they do.
In every school across the country.

Kids get in trouble all the time for saying things the admin thinks inappropriate. Looks like this time they realized they made a mistake and backed down. That's pretty rare. Usually they stick to whatever lame ass ruling they make.

Wait so admin then said it was ok to desicrate the flag but not to allow calling the act a "disgrace".....I'm confused

If it's a government (public) school, the government does not have the right to squelch an individual's right to their freedom of speech, as per the Constitution. If someone said something that threatened another individual then the punishment fits the crime, however the teen did not threaten anyone, therefore the punishment is against the law.
