Once again, you have posted a true beaut far worthier than my quick little throwaway trash quip merited.
Yes, given the unpopularity of the war and the climate in general at the time, Trump was hardly alone in avoiding it (early or later), which regardless of the limits in or avoidance of serving by others he DID do. Is the service (or lack of) those other three any less questionable or outright cowardly because of Trump did like them, only more easily due to connections? Should all four get a pass?
My point was more in terms of highlighting the hypocrisy given Trump's current fondness for sabre rattling and this delightful display of military strength in this self-indulgent self-aggrandizing show, Salute to America starring Donald J Trump.
I knew Kerry from your description right off, but had to look up the other three. Their level or lack of participation in Vietnam did nothing to alter my distate for them nor cause me regret for not voting for any of them.
Clinton's use of the military to distract from his shenanigans made Wag the Dog a book and a movie and part of popular lexicon.
Kerry had nothing against the Iraq War, railing at Howard Dean, "How dare you criticise our President in this, our time of war," and using THAT as a means to crush his primary bid. His "I too would have gone to war with Iraq, but I would have been more effective" was cringe gold.
Gore, the less said about that charlatan, the better. Even negative criticism strokes his flatulent ego.
What you said was sound, but it hardly changes my perception of him. In fact, by throwing in those other three, it enforces my view of where their hearts are and how deep their sense of duty and honor goes as well as sense of loyalty, which most can agree, is only to themselves.
