It was also shown through wikileaks that someone in the DNC would approve his scripts during the election. He's a total paid shill.

I used to love the Colbert Report on Comedy Central and used watch his late night show until his material started to bomb. And that was before his all anti-trump monologues started. His writers must be really bad if the only way they can get a laugh is by pandering to leftists.

Agreed.

Indeed, every comedian-slash-late night host worth his salt includes jokes taking digs at whatever president is currently in office, that's fine. But when it turns into a holy crusade, your entertainment value is at an end.

I posted this one a few weeks ago, they've all turned into what you describe and it's sad. It's been going on for a long time but it seems so much worse with Trump. Granted, the man gives a lot of material for them to use too.

Oh really? You used to think a comedian was good until it became politically convenient for you to say that a comedian wasn't so good?

Gee, never heard that before.

He was pretty good pretending to play a dense conservative. But I was watching some old Letterman and Carson and it was just so refreshing to see politics not treated so utter partisan and where the focus was on humor.

Why are you on the politics stream of imgflip if you prefer a non-partisan approach to humor?
6 ups, 5y,
1 reply
Imgflip is different. The political stream is suppose to be partisan, to an extent.

It would also be different if Colbert was still actually funny. Seems it's going more for applause than actual laughs. And the real problem is every late night host has the same approach. Just lecturing about Trump and politics. That's why Roseanne was able to capitalize on the mere stating that her character was a Trump supporter, altho her show was your typical left wing sjw fest.

There's no arguing taste, but again it is terribly convenient that your ever so fair judgement happened to find that he was no longer funny when his political humor turned to Trump.
[deleted]
5 ups, 5y
The main idea is that Colbert used to make jokes about political absurdity of all stripes just like Jon Stewart and John Oliver. they built their careers on being funny at the expense of politicians in general. He sold his soul to the DNC and now makes no effort to be funny. Just trump trump trump trump trump, just like all the other talk show hosts. Paid to repeat the same talking points.
5 ups, 5y,

When he became an unfunny partisan after being a funny partisan? Sure, that's natural. But I can't stomach spoonfeed humorless propaganda. Even someone like Trevor Noah, of all people, just uttered a few words of compliment about Trump trying to keep his campaign promised.

But like I said, I judge a comedian on how funny his material is. I find Colbert and most of his drone colleagues seriously unfunny. If they actually were clever about it, like some of the memes criticizing Trump here, I'd give them credit where credit is due.

I don't believe you.

South Park? It used to be funny but it's not anymore now that they make fun of Trump. The Simpsons? It used to be funny but it's not anymore now that they make fun of Trump. Saturday Night Live? It used to be funny but it's not anymore now that they make fun of Trump. Daily Show almuni? It used to be funny but it's not anymore now that they make fun of Trump. F**king Sesame Street used to be good until they started "virtue signalling" and whatever.

You know, for someone for whom "virtue signalling" is such a bette-noire, you sure do make it obvious what you are doing. These opinions clearly don't have anything to do with what you think is or isn't good entertainment: it's about what is convenient to you and your cultural narrative.

I don't buy it for one second.
5 ups, 5y,
1 reply
Gee, here I am trying to have a civil discussion and you have to get contentious and accuse me of lying.

South Park still has it's moments, altho I was never a fan. I do respect that they consider both sides of most issues fair game.

I was the biggest fan of the Simpsons but it totally fizzled out after 8 to 10 years in. Well before Trump.

I grew up with the best SNL years, from Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman and Mike Myers to Farley, Sandler, Rock, to Farrell. It also died a few years after Ferrell and Fey becoming head 'comedy' writer put the final nail in it's coffin, never to recover. Also, well before Trump.

Etc etc

As you say, humor is objective, which is true, but even comedic giants like seinfeld won't tour colleges because of the pc sjw culture people like you push so hard for. I'd probably put my understanding of comedians above yours considering I've probably watched alot more comedy than you, also considering the usual humorless nature of your usual posts, but, hey, that's subjective too.

If you think I'm lying and think Colbert is hilarious and just think it's all political bias, I don't know what to tell you. Like I said, I could appreciate his schtick parodying a conservative during the Bush years. He also didn't seem so nasty about it even though he was ridiculing Republicans all the time.

Sorry Syd, the best SNL years were with Chevy Chase, Jane Curtain, Gilda Radner, Dan Akroyd, John Belushi, Garrett Morris and Laraine Newman.

True, they probably didn't give him the best skits with all those egos there.
2 ups, 5y,
1 reply
Yeah, one can surely make that case. Ackroyd and Belushi were the best. Radner was hilarious too. Never was sure why Garrett was there though. I don't think he had great comedic chops, i think he was a song and dance man or stage trained.
1 up, 5y
Garrett Morris wasn't the genius the others were, but he had his moments, fewer that they were.

No, was just echoing your sentiment.
Although fresh sitcom material is hardly in abundance, it all having been done before.

Trump is like what Tina Faye said about Sarah Palin, that they write the material themselves, with what they say being so ridiculously absurd. Unlike the asinine jabs at AOC dependent on total fabrication falsely attributed to her (thank goodness for the cauliflower bit, YES! finally some real poo on her face that is real AND funny!), Trump's very own Tweets sound like a parody of himself.

I think he's talking about how they use to use Trump to their advantage and then cast him away when it was politically expedient. Altho I think Letterman was always fairly hostile to Trump, like alot of New Yorkers, it seems. Probably wrong tho :)

The imgflip stream IS partisan, but left-leaning. Why do you think so many people are complaining about inoffensive political memes being censored?

The majority of memes that make it to the top of the political stream may be right leaning, but that's "popular vote" /user preference/, not the partisanship of the stream itself, or its mods.
[deleted]
4 ups, 5y,
1 reply
Over the last three pages on the LATEST politics stream right now, 19 featured memes are clearly right wing partisan, 16 featured memes are clearly left wing partisan, and 7 are nothing to do with either or are unclear as to the point they're making.

That would put the lean on the right side, although the numbers are so close I'm willing to call it balanced if you are. Either way, the math says no, it's not particularly left-leaning.

How do you miss that that comes down to which way the /users/ of the site lean, not the partisanship of the site itself?
[deleted]

What difference does that make? The outcome of the content is the same. If the mods are exercising the discrimination you're claiming then without the mods, the content bias would be even more obviously in your favor.

You do know that fairly big users have quit imgflip because of the recent content discrimination and censorship, right?

I saw. It baffles me. I see the content of imgflip and the horrible things that people get away with saying and not just purgeboy. I can't help but wonder if maybe you just aren't understanding the objections of the mods; afterall, purgeboy isn't being blammed for political reasons, he's being blammed because he's a dickhead.

But I am not involved in that side of things so I don't know. All I know is that as I have already said, the content of the politics stream is leaning towards you guys if it can be said to lean in any direction at all.

I haven't seen all these 'banned' memes, but quite a few I've seen are stolen, posted with no original caption, or a token one that adds nothing to it (you missed out on 'YEP!!!!!!!!" late last year - a memer whose entire output was borrowed memes to which he added only "yep!!!!!" as a caption).

Others have been attacks on specific users. Funny the audacity of those complaining when they were solely meant to harrass or even slander fellow memers.

Given what you referred to as having gotten through, this supposed anti-right sweep has been rather unnoticable, save for the whining of memers whose memes mangage occupy half the front page regardless.

Do you know, I figure that the explanation is probably going to go along the lines of what you're describing so I am inclined to believe every word you are saying.

But I am not going to push my suspicions without data and evidence because on this site in particular, one has to be prepared before poking sticks at the hornet's nest.

I didn't say what I think of her, just reflected on what everyone else tends to and pointed out that at least for once (ok, twice) she really did utter a flub (MULTI-pronged, no less, which I was supposed to bring up on ArcMis's meme about it but hadn't gotten around to it).

And Trump is too old and senile to know how troll. He's just crass. Not by design, just a lack of couth and brains.

Cum Laude double major at Brown University is hardly retarded.

The made up and distorted quotes seen on memes on this site gave me reason to not bother looking into any until the cauliflower bit, since those were more consistent and not as elaborate.
The statement itself is blatantly and offensively racist, since she - herself a product of colonists and colonialism - is hardly a Taino back in Boriqua nor represents solely them (not that any real ones are left nor would that would justify it).
She flubbed badly on not knowing that plantains and Yuca aren't grown here because they're tropical plants. On her being all giddy about composting in a community garden, not only does Green Thumb distribute free compost bins to them in NYC, there is a new program to collect organic waste to turn into mulch. Perhaps it's not city wide yet (we've it in this neighborhood since last year), but given her call for this green deal, she should be at least informed even if it was just a pilot program.

Anyways, those are my observations from watching her video the other day. Granted, most folks don't know diddly about gardening, but she should know what she's talking about before posting it.

I've not seen much else other than short quotes here and there which can reek of a tad too much Al Franken Young Turk arrogance for my tastes and the Kavanaugh bit. But regardless of how smart she is or isn't, that doesn't give Trump a pass or shed him in a new light other than maybe those in office from here are a bunch of blithering buffoons of all glitz and little substance.

Her calls for expanding socialist-type programs and the Green New Deal are overly optimistic (to put it nicely) and clang of naivete entitlement and desire for unnecessary unpaid for waste.
