We've seen the tax returns of every politician who became President in 40 years.

So if anything, this has reduced transparency, not expanded it.

It's not showing transparency to show tax returns when the democrats demand it. The democrats have no intention in transparency. They think Trump is guilty of something and only want to see them because they think it'll ruin him.

If you think Trump doesn't have a bunch of tax professionals doing his taxes, you're not too bright. But I know you're smarter than that. If Trump were doing something illegal with his taxes, he'd be in trouble already.

They might, but the IRS will eventually come calling. So it really doesn't matter if he shows his tax returns or not, he'll eventually get caught IF he's doing something illegal.

are you saying that there is crookedness ? the IRS would have to be 10000% complicit in it then. What party has been calling to dissolve the IRS? What party has been calling for a "Flat tax"?
[deleted]

Then why wouldn't you be just as keen to subpoena the tax returns so you can go "AH HA! The IRS WAS complicit in this! NOW can we abolish the IRS?" Or you could go "see? Told you he was squeaky clean" - either way, doesn't sound like you could lose.

But this way, if Trump has been scamming the tax system, you're left defending a tax cheat all this time.

Mitch McConnell screamed bloody murder when a bunch of tea party groups tried to file as apolitical nonprofits, and I still see that incident referenced in a bunch of anti-Obama memes - but somehow complaining about the IRS is something you do when it suits your politics and that kind of gives the game away here.

so your answer was not really an answer. There are 2 possibilities with Trumps tax returns He is Crooked and then the IRS is complicit(remember he gets audited every yr) or His tax returns are in order. there is nothing else.

There may be reasons he doesn't want them public, would you want yours?

Again, if Trump is a tax cheat and Broken laws, why hasn't he been thrown in jail? Do you know what an IRS audit is? A Colonoscopy is slightly less invasive .

At best you are saying He maybe used "loopholes"? I dont like them but they are legal. a flat tax would eliminate them..

Yes! For the love of God, look over all my tax returns if I ever run for so much as dog catcher! Heck, even as a schoolteacher, you're going to see that I'm making the salary published by the government anyway and that I'm not making a ton of money by some shady side business that everyone parent is going to want me to explain.

Yes, for the love of all that is holy, submit my taxes to the public record and hold the President to the same account JUST LIKE EVERY PRESIDENT FOR THE LAST FORTY YEARS!

and let the world have your ss #? who has more to lose ?identity theft ?who is the much bigger target. who knows what the reasoning is? Maybe he gives to charities and doesnt want them to become targets. and b4 you say the left wouldnt target charities , maybe I am not talking about the left. maybe he is going to use it as a future bargaining chip ? One thing i do know is that Mueller looked so far up his asshole, if there was anything there he would be in jail like Cohen etc. like I said, if there is something wrong there the IRS is 10000% complicit and Mueller too.

Obviously, I don't care if Trump withholds his social security number. That's already been hacked, I think, but presidents aren't subjected to identity theft for the standard protocol of releasing their tax returns. You're just making excuses at this point.
0 ups, 5y
no, I am simply stating that there wud be many reasons why he would not want them released and in a way you are telling me that the IRS cannot be trusted. right. ?They are either legit or corrupt in this case right? or do you think that Trump is so smart that he fooled them? that makes them inadequate then..
So is the IRS , A-corrupt and hiding stuff for trump ?B- adequate in their work and trump Taxes are in order or C fooled by Trump and therefore inadequate again? Again he automatically gets audited so they 100% scoured his returns.

I don't care about their tax returns. If they're hiding something on them, they'll eventually be caught. And there's no evidence Trump is cheating on his taxes.

Excuse me if I don't necessarily trust what the left and their media puppets have to say about this. They don't necessarily have a good track record of truth and honesty and a respect for the president.

You don't think that there's more than a reasonable chance that Trump, the compulsive liar and cheater at everything he has ever done, has been cooking his books funny, but the left and the media are the ones you don't trust?

Who are you fooling? You don't actually think he's trustworthy. You just think his con artistry happens to suit your interests right now.

When has he compulsively lied and cheated?

I have plenty of evidence the media and the rest of the left lies, but I'm curious as to what actual dirt you have on Trump that isn't heresy.

First of all, there is no legal requirement for any citizen, including the President, to make public their confidential private tax return.

Second, the President and Vice Presidents tax return, by law, are required to be audited by IRS professionals annually.

I am pretty sure that Trumos tax return is very complex. Why do congressmen, who are not accountants, think they are going to find something that the professionals in the IRS didn't find.

This has nothing to do with "Congressional Oversight". It is purely a political ploy to harass the President by the Democrats.

Nixon was congratulated on how well organized and thorough his tax returns were in a letter from the IRS. It was only after the committee requested his tax returns were "significant errors" found.

The people need to know if Trump committed crimes via his taxes.

Actually, yes he is. here's the link to Fox News: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-lawyer-calls-on-irs-to-reject-democrats-demand-for-tax-returns-says-it-would-set-dangerous-precedent

Trump's Lawyer is telling the IRS to reject the request for Trump's tax returns.

The chairman- by law- has the right to view any filer's tax returns. Anyone's.

To reject the request by the chairman is to break the law.
[deleted]
0 ups, 5y,

It is a request, not a subpoena by law enforcement.

Again, you are delusional.

It IS NOT against the law to keep your tax returns hidden from the public. If it were, Trump would be in trouble with the IRS.
1 up, 5y
Actually I'll cut/paste the relevant section of 26 U.S. Code § 6103 since you don't know what you're talking about:

Disclosure to Committees of Congress
(1) Committee on Ways and Means, Committee on Finance, and Joint Committee on Taxation
Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Committee on Finance of the Senate, or the chairman of the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.

Do you see that part right there where is says "upon written request" and then it lists the 4 people who can do that and what the Treasury Secretary has (shall furnish) any taxpayer information those 4 want to see? Any One.

Billionaires provide a product or service in exchange for money.
Politicians provide favorable laws, tax exemptions, and funds from the public treasury to corporations for campaign donations and other valuable information.

One I’m okay with.
The second one I’m not.

Prove it.

That's what you and the left said when conservatives claimed that Obama owed "someone" for his University education, owed "someone" for hiding his college records, owed "someone" for hiding his passport application, owed "someone" for hiding his immigration status as a student, owed "someone" for hiding his funding sources to pay for college. You told everyone to shut the hell up.

Prove it. Very simple. Prove it.

If you can, show the evidence. The left will celebrate you and you'll be famous. You'll be interviewed incessantly on MSNBC and CNN.

If you can't, then shut the hell up.

PROVE IT.

0 ups, 5y,

Do you? There is info in both of them them. Proof positive *OR* proof negative.

He sure SEEMS guilty of something. Hence the 180 on the whole "yeah sure....make the report public." His taxes and that report hold A LOT of evidence.

"In terms of high-end product influx into the US, Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets," Donald Trump Jr. said at a New York real-estate conference that year. "Say, in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo, and anywhere in New York. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia." (https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-jr-said-money-pouring-in-from-russia-2018-2)

He owes them (his Russian financiers.) And it shows in how he acts towards Russia/Putin. The proof on paper would be the nail in the coffin. How his die hard supporters don't see it or care is baffling.

As a businessman I am sure (or at least don't care) what he did is totally legal. As a President.....nope. This is not good. He's in bed with them as a business person AND OWES THEM... and that can't be undone as President. In fact it's frightening.
