How do you catch someone leaking information to the press?

somebody else has also referenced CNN "standing by it's story" after it was proven false. is this based on a specific event or..?

Thier anonympus source was discovered and has publicly contradicted narative CNN is pushing. Note the tone of CNNs response. No matter how you feel about Trump, CNN has made it clear they are out to get him. And even when caught in a mistake (which happens) did not give a journalist "we believe our information to be accurate" or something of the like. Thier actions border on libel.

Note the tone of CNN's response? What about the tone of what they are responding to? He flat out said CCN's Carl Bernstein "makes up story after story, thinks like a degenerate fool, fake news, major lie, etc".. Also note the anonymous source that was "discovered"- Trump's ex-lawyer's current lawyer, Lanny Davis. Basically he gave CNN a story, denied being the source of the story, then later admitted to being the source, and then later claimed his own story was false.... (possibly because it opened his own client up to a perjury charge.). Trump then bashed CNN over it, and CNN defended themselves.

Trump is an ass. That's a given. CNN still has a responsibility to maintain journalistic integrity, which means acknowledging when they've made an error. When the "journalist's clearly take sides and double down when they make a mistake, they are not journalist's, they are an anti Trump propaganda machine. CNN has abandoned even the pretense of nuetrality. At this point, Fox (which has an obvious pro-Trump bias) is more reliable and has more integrity as a news source. I have no issue with reporting negative news about Trump, but it still must be accurate and handled with integrity.

it kind of seems like you are saying both CNN and Fox are biased, but only one of them is fake news..? Lenny Davis acknowledged his "error" that CNN, and other MSM news reports were based on but he has obvious motive to claim it was an error. I'm not much of a conspiracy guy but.......

Fake news is a term that gets thrown around a lot (by both sides). The real issue is that CNN is doubling down on the mistake. If a source has proven unreliable, you admit it. You don't claim that you only reported the truth and that there was no mistake or embarrassment. While FOX is biased, for the most part their information and sources are reliable, and seldom anonymous. The bias comes from what they choose to report (or not report) and the commentary they apply to it (another big problem is much of the populace can not distinguish between oppinion and fact).

seems CNN was f***ed either way. I guess this time they choose to be labeled "doubling down fake news" over "apologetic fake news".. it just seems ironic that Trump's calling them that based on a story that originated from his own lawyer's lawyer.
