Where is the consensus that sex and gender are two different things?

The dictionary changed it a few years back to coincide with the current political agenda. Welcome to 1984, where the very meaning of words are changed to suit current political whims.

So true. People state that gender and sex are different like it's some self revealing truth that has been established.

Maybe we should consult the Ministry of Truth on this.

So you're saying since I was identify as female I should adhere to female roles (i.e. stereotypes)?
If I don't adhere to my gender role, do I need to change my identity to coincide?
The idea that gender is a social role reinforces stereotypes and, in my opinion, makes true gender equality more difficult. Gender should be truely irrelevant for social matters. People should be able to behave however they choose without judgement or lables, regardless of biological gender.

Well it isn't fair that some people have stereotypes for women, is it? Welcome to the real world. Deal with it.

People are able to behave however they want as well, they just have to ignore those who judge them. And yes, gender plays an important role in social matters, like chivalry (never punch a girl).

Well, actually there are laws that apply to different genders and what they can do in public for good reason.

While I would never go around topless due to my personal modesty threshold, but there is no "good reason" I shouldn't. Especially with the temperature reaching triple digits. Breasts have no inherent sexual fuction.

Try convincing a teenaged boy that exposed female breasts have no sexual function.
Public decency laws are in place for a reason. Society in general doesn't want exhibitionists walking around nude in public, regardless of their personal modesty threshold.

At one point in history exposed ankles were sexually appealing. Is there a "good reason" to keep my ankles covered too. How about my face. In some cultures viewing a woman's face is extremely intimate and a privilege reserved for her husband. Is that a "good reason" for women to have to keep their face covered?
Society's hang ups may be a reason for laws, but is my no means a good reason, or even a universal one.

Sexually appealing and and indecent exposure are two different things. There are extremes on both ends of the spectrum - public nudity being the other end from covered ankles.

There has been no increase in sexual predation. Attitudes have evolved as to what counts and who exactly is "at fault". Women are less likely to be s**t shamed (it still happens though) for being the victim of a rape, and are thus more likely to come forward. In countries with stricter modesty (public indencency) laws, rape is actually more likely to occur and less likely to be reported, especially since they often find a way to charge the victim with a crime (alone with a man, out after dark without an escort, etc.) I'm bisexual and I manage to keep my hands off all the skimpily dressed women I come across (the skimpily dressed men too). It sounds like you think your modestly standards should be imposed to make you more comfortable with victim blaming.

Its not “my” modesty standards. Society general still believes that public nudity is wrong. But you’re right, attitudes have evolved but much more so with the Internet. And it’s not just sexual predation easy access to pornography is doing to society. It’s actually affecting our brains similar to drugs.
