This is obviously not my meme. I took it from another source (in this case, Facebook) and wanted to share it here.
I do get your point. Meaning is a human thing, that does not exist in the real world, that makes things more than what they are... fair enough... Now we've said that, it does not mean that all meaning is worthless (Worth and value are of course human-only, and do not exist in the real world). What do we CHOOSE to value? I say "I love you" (or "I hate you") is more valuable than "I love money" (or "I hate money") because there's another person at the other end. Most human massacres have been made in the name of something abstract like god, nation, good or evil.

Yeah I know. I'm certainly not judging the guy. He was born a slave and a soldier at 23 year old... probably more of a man than i'll ever be. What I find sad is what we do with these stories. Every country has them, and you people are taught that doing the same is the pinnacle of what a man should be.

Yeah sure. The question is what we remember them for... I wish young people were not fed with this kind of stories, telling them dying for some symbol is an example they should follow.

You can break down the flag to its chemical components, the idea of America would still be intact... because it's an idea not a real thing. If you break a human being into its chemical components, you don't get a human beings... People can break... not ideas. That's why I think we should care more about people than ideas... Heroism and terrorism are similar on this matter, they value the idea over people...

Sure. "I love you" is noise but the other person is a real human being, with real emotions, a person that can die... not the flag, not money...
