What you are referring to is London - NOT England - having more murders than NYC earlier this year. Don't know if that trend conntiued.
One trend that is continuing is the amazing drop in murder & other violent crimes in NYC - just decades ago THE baddest place on Earth - now the safest big city in America.
Strict gun control, a no questions asked gun buyback program, changes in police methodology, and social intervention implemented since the 1960s have done their part.
In the meantime in London, the opposite. Extensive budget cuts have caused police to not even SHOW UP when called for non 'major' crimes, including violence with knives. As long as people ain't severely hurt or killed, much was ignored. This was expected to worsen, however the shocking recent trends and resulting outcry & emabarrassment have caused a change in policy regarding investigation and also more pro active social intervention, you know, like what worked in New York City.
In terms of laonsite's charts, there seems to be some curious correlation througout the ENTIRE planet with the level of gun ownership and the crimes committed by those very guns. Big mystery, huh?
The other shows that proud to be gun totin' Texans in Houston sure are deflecting less crimes than the less armed populace of New York, in fact, again, as in the first chart, high gun ownership numbers and high gun crime numbers seem to have a mysterious connection there as well.
Damn, I shoulda studied my maffs harder.
