Lincoln never freed the slaves
reply

reply
5 ups, 1 reply
Actually he's right.

The Emancipation Proclamation only affected slaves in Southern states, and since those states had seceded, it wasn't legally binding in those states until the end of the Civil War, two years later. Slaves in Union states weren't granted freedom until the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment in December 1865, and Lincoln was already dead by then.
reply
4 ups, 1 reply
Just because the Southern states didn't accept or enact the emancipation proclamation, doesn't mean the slaves weren't /legally/ free. I know that didn't mean much to them at the time, of course. Thus it became an important rallying point in unifying the nation, so those slaves /could/ be set free.

"While the Emancipation Proclamation did not free a single slave, it was an important turning point in the war, transforming the fight to preserve the nation into a battle for human freedom." ~ from history.com

The slaves were "freed" in hopes of creating an insurrection in the Confederacy. There were no heroes in that war on either side. They were all rotten sons of b**ches.

Hey, nobody's saying there can't be other people who might deserve it /more/ than him, I'm just saying I'm not in a position to gainsay the leader of South Korea when he says that Trump /does/ deserve it. And neither are any keyboard liberals.

reply
0 ups, 1 reply
And what puts you in a position to know better than the actual leader of one of the countries involved?

And please try to avoid the usual fanatical, deceitful left wing hyperbole; things like calling him a "rapist" over some locker room talk, or calling him a "nazi who hates all Mexicans" simply because he wants to strengthen the US borders. Things like that are a vicious, disgusting slap in the face to both genuine **pe victims and to people who survived the holocaust at the hands of actual nazis.

More specfically Post hoc ergo propter hoc or "after this, therefore because of this". Just because it happend while he was in office does not mean he is responsible. Also whats to say North Korea's leader isn't playing the long con with a delightful deception.
reply
0 ups, 2 replies
I'm not denying the possibility that Un is playing the con. But still, your argument holds no water, because I'm pretty damn sure Moon knows far more about Trump's role in all of it than you do.

Also, you certainly can't give credit to any of the past presidents, especially not Obama. They all refused to deal with the regime in North Korea /at all/, because they didn't want to "legitimize" it.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
While Moon is the leader of South Korea and has access to more information than me or you , that does not mean however it isn't possible he is misinterprting things. I do however acknowledge that my argument is weak and should this debate continue I will do my best to do more than just grasp at straws. I will acquire more information and strengthen my agrument. I agree that the past presidents deserve little to no credit although singling out Obama being especially undeserving was unrequired seeing as you slap the same grievance across the board. I also agree that they were a bit stupid in not to deal with North Korea for fear of "legitimizing" it. I want to at this point thank you for taking part in this intellectual debate and for your time. I find it not only important but fun to engage in one from time to time.
reply

Honestly, I misspoke. I shouldn't have said "especially not Obama", when what I meant was really just "including Obama".

I think it's partly because I misinterpreted your statement "Just because it happend while he was in office does not mean he is responsible.". Far too many times, whenever something good has come out of Trump's presidency, I have seen people make that argument in the sense that they're claiming Obama set it up while HE was in office, while at the same time whenever something bad happens, it was ALL Trump's fault.

Plainly put, people on the left want to give Trump none of the credit and all of the blame, for anything.

He was escorted out of the auditorium along with the protestor that crashed the rally. The punch was like something out of Grumpy Old Men.
reply

LOL. Seems like a decent turnout. I didn't see what happened, but sounds like nobody got hurt and both got escorted out, so it doesn't encourage anyone else to try their luck either. We don't need that kind of bad publicity on top of all the nonsense we already get. self defence is great; losing your temper, not so much

"When did you make the choice to not engage in real conversation, i liked the old MW."

Well, I will admit that I've been waiting for words like that for a long, long time since I became more of a troll and less of a debater. One thing with this change is that I've been more and more critical of the left and right political spectrums (SJWs, Alt Right, etc) as well as being more interested in stoking everyone's coal.

Real conversation wise, I won't deny that the left are guilty of attacking Trump supporters. It's a vicious practice that I don't condone, mainly because it's not a way of moving forward politically (I'm one to talk). It's also why I don't the shallow idea of calling Democrats or Republicans "Nazis" for every thing I disagree with them on (this political neutralization I've been practicing has been making me neutral).

However, I should add that Trump's supporters are also guilty of attacking liberals; it goes both ways. I haven't seen much news on the attacks of Trump/Hillary/Bernie supporters, but I have seen news where LGBTQ+ individuals are killed in the most brutal ways by people who shout slurs and think they're patriotic.

I liked the old MW as well, now I think about it. ;)

It's a tough line to walk, staying true to core values yet keeping an open mind. A lot of times I find myself thinking later in the day how something I commented or how a comment to me relates to mine. Trolling comes with few rewards, feeling true to yourself is its own reward, (even fewer in number but more satisfying.)

True that. I've been keeping my mind open, just not letting others see it, though.. ;P
