Muskets or M4's, the point was to make sure the government couldn't become tyrannical.

When you think having an M4 will be enough to put you on equal footing with a military that has access to drones and nukes.

Batman Slapping Robin Meme | YOU CAN'T BEAT THE GREATEST MILITARY IN HISTORY THE POINT IS TO RESIST TYRANNY! | image tagged in memes, batman slapping robin | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Obviously, nobody is going to be on "equal footing" with the US military. The point is to make it as hard as possible for the government to kill millions of its citizens like they did in Russia, China, Cambodia, Rwanda, etc.

But Thats None Of My Business Meme | MOST FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS WOULD NOT USE NUKES OR WMDS BECAUSE THEY WOULD ALSO DAMAGE MUCH DESIRED RESOURCES UNLESS THEY ARE A COMPLETE PSYCHO | image tagged in memes, but thats none of my business, kermit the frog | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
They can have all the nukes they want. If they try to use it on us they know we will unleash everything we have in the few minutes left. Plus the fallout pollution will likely cover the whole world, even if we don't fire ours off. The dust clouds from our destruction alone combined with massive amounts of radioactivity will destroy them even if they prevent us from firing.

All that aside, if standard rifles are so obsolete why are recruits still required to pass a marksman test during basic? And why are troops still using guns?

You're right, no one can win a pitched battle against the US. But the US can't just blow a homegrown insurgency to bits because it'll be mixed in with the very population they're governing. Even if the government was WILLING to commit mass genocide they still couldn't because they NEED those people to grow their food and run their factories.

This is the whole reason the US could never fully squash things in Iraq OR Afghanistan. And unlike with those countries, it's not practically POSSIBLE to throw out the rules of war, because the government still needs people to govern.

Those weren't insurgenicies. And the Confederacy insurgency got squashed regardless of what happened in Korea or Panama.

Your deliberate stupidity posing as some sort of psuedo-argument/tantrum is boring. I am going to watch some CNN just to further trigger your meltdown now.

Muskets were military grade weapons back then. Thus, by liberal logic, the 2nd amendment must also apply to HMGs today.

They didn't want a national military because they were afraid it would lead to government tyranny.

Having the largest army on earth STRENGTHENS the need for the 2nd, not weakens it.

It's bullie's faults in the end, ok, but in this case, victims can choose another way to get out of this situation, they kill themself with their own hand : they have the choice. When someone kill you with a gun, you're dead. You have no choice there.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Can they really choose at that point though? They probably got depression from the constant bullying!
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Yes they can choose. We're talking about words here, just so we're clear. Words can be ignored, deflected, reused against bullies etc, there are tons of ways to protect ourselves from words and depression. Depression itself is not an excuse for suicide, it's only a cause of suicide. As long as people's life is not directly threatened, as long as people have a way to fight or run away from the situation somehow, they can choose. Suicide is an option only when you know you'll die soon no matter what you'll do. Otherwise, there're always other options.

Anyway.

If you want to say that, then we need to teach how to do that. School now-in-days tells bullies to not bully. "swiper no swiping" you may say. We should be teaching self-defense.
reply
0 ups
Well, I agree on that one. Self-defense to defend oneself or someone else and counterattack, right. But there is also a great need of teaching self-awareness (and not-self-awareness too) as soon as possible so people learn how to prevent or deal with all kind of depression, anxiety, and misappropriated aggressiveness (and other negative / destructive feelings they may submit to later in life), each in their own way. We need to make bullies (of all kind) an exception, while today it's more of a rule (and while people have to accept that rule and have an appropriate answer, they go with the wrong and destructive feelings cause that's what works in this unhealthy environment.

So anyway, yeah. Education.

Interestingly enough, cars, computers, and TVs were also not around when our nation was founded. Does freedom of speech apply to television? How about the internet? And no, it's not different.

Like the Founding Fathers saw AR-15s coming a mile off.

I don't know as much about ballistics or guns as others. But from my lame understanding of guns a shotgun would be quite efficient in close engagements.

And I sometimes visualize myself in different environments, unarmed, against a punk with a gun. And in regards to mass shooters I would dare say they are a jittery, antsy, barely keeping it together little shit. He has to fire several rounds wildly in hopes of landing a hit. ARs and handguns require more precision, meanwhile a shotgun is more forgiving in terms of accuracy. It would be harder to miss with a shotgun.
reply

there's a 'give and take'... within a certain range, unless the gun is at the ready, an unarmed, or knife wielding 'victim' can fight back getting the jump before you can raise the weapon... outside a certain range and the 'scatter' loses it's effectiveness (remember when Cheney shot his Friend while hunting, it was Bird-shot, but virtually 'point blank' and the guy only had minor facial trauma...) if your close quarters aren't close enough you'll inflict a lot of pain over a wide area but non-fatal

also it's easier to wrest control of a shotgun once the hand to hand starts... then there is the matter of reloading, Breach load is 1 or 2 shots... pump action allows 5? in the under barrel magazine(I'm behind the times in tech)
reply

2-5 sounds about right for pump action. There are some that hold as many as 6-10, but it's fairly rare.

Same here.. or a pistol. AR-15s are basically overdone.. just like the majority of modern day creations..

If I were with a shooter, and I had a gun (not saying I would, but hypothetically speaking), I wouldn't aim to kill.. maybe if I had to, I'd shoot some body part that's not the chest or the head. A leg-shot would be my win-win option; stop the crook without killing him. A shotgun would be the gun to do it too. Shotguns aren't as easy to handle as most quick-shooting weapons we have today, so I don't think we should restrict them as much as AR-15s.

Center Mass. Always... the limbs are smaller, fast moving targets and it's to easy for them to not be where they were when you pull a trigger...

experiment: hold up your hand... wave at your Creepy neighbor watching you from his bedroom...
-Place your hand on a piece of paper and replicate that wave...
- mark the right and left extreme of the arc
- look at all the 'area' your hand covered as you waved...

That range of movement is, i'd wager 3-4 times as big as your hand, and your hand is only hand-size that means your target is 1/4-1/3 the size of the potential space it might occupy... now think about how much effort and energy it'd take to move your Torso the same Relative amount...
- unless you're 'Broad side of a Barn' bad, your odds of actually hitting them in any way are far better aiming at the torso

Because the Founding Father’s obviously didn’t think about the future when they wrote the Constitution (even though that’s law writing: day 1), of course we’re supposed to not allow any technological advances in order for the constitution to work! That makes tons of sense!
