There have been some states where teen pregnancy has been a prosecutable offense. Still, the point is that passing a law won't stop people from breaking the law.

The point, which some of you missed, is that passing a law to make something illegal does nothing to end the behavior. Sex trafficking is illegal, but like opioids and littering, happens anyway. Passing a law to control guns won't work.

Wow, I totally disagree with you about sex trafficking. If you think that behavior should be legal you could be insane. If people do it they go to jail and that definitely reduces it happening. Drugs are I a little bit of a different story because the one being hurt by the activity is the drug users. It maybe better to allow people to get free methadone. I think they did that in portegual and it worked pretty well.

I agree that sex trafficking should be illegal. The fact that it is illegal doesn't prevent it from happening.

It does prevent it from happening in two ways. If the law breakers are in prison they aren't able to commit the crime of sex trafficking. There are also actually quite a few people that avoid illegal activities because they don't want to be caught and go to prison.

But then technicially it sometimes can prevent them from getting the guns if they have a criminal background.

Mass shootings are actually a rarity in the USA but they get the most publicity compared to what is really going on crime wise in the world. All the laws in the world do not stop crime because Criminals don't obey the law. You Cannot legislate Morality and there is not a thing in the world that can stop someone who decides "'today , I am gonna kill people..." by whatever method they choose, laws be damned. Our Society has glorified killing in movies, video games, all the while getting "God" out of our schools and public places until we then see people praying for the victims , so you reap what you sow. When I was a kid , we could take our guns to school and put them in the corner so we could hunt for rabbits and squirrels on the way home, and NOBODY ever got shot in school because our Parents taught us responsibility and that you cannot recall a bullet once it was fired. I personally used a gun to stop 6 attacks against others and myself in the course of my life. I would not be here now if I had been disarmed.

I should be clear that I'm not advocating for a full prohibition of guns. I was thinking more of common sense gun laws like waiting periods and universal background checks. I totally agree that prohibition of alcohol is crazy there are however several laws surrounding its sale and production which most Americans think is reasonable. I don't really want to take your guns away. I'm also not very excited about the thought of you packing your assault rifle around my town because your afraid of being mugged or the military declaring marshal law. I don't want to feel like I need to carry a gun every I go either. Carrying a gun is a total pain in the ass. New York City for along time had a really bad crime problem. Then the leaders increased the police presence and it changed the situation. New York feels very safe now. So yeah we need to take care of ourselves but when cram a bunch of people together in a city a functional police force really helps.

I'm glad you don't support a ban , but waiting periods only get people killed that need a gun now for protection, there are cases on the books. Again , criminals are not gonna follow laws with background checks etc. They Dont work for the most part. I Do not own an assault rifle , Mine are semi-auto look alikes , where an "Assault rifle " is select fire military weapon. The Media and anti gun people labeled our guns assault rifles , but that is a scare tactic and propaganda. Rest assured if I am walking around your area with a rifle or gun of anykind you have nothing to fear from me unless you are gonna rob or carjack me . Being former LEO and Air Force I support law enforcement and i will protect Other citizens if I am present. Where i Lived in Alaska and where I live now in Oklahoma there is no local Law enforcement that can be here in less than about 10 -12 minutes. By then its too late. I have trained many people in Shooting and self defense over the years and there is nothing to fear except needing a gun and not having one. Refuse to be a Victim is What I teach.
