You very deftly ignored the main point, which is that almost every civilization from the dawn of history recognized two and only two genders. Most recognized that even if one was homosexual in preference it was still a man, not a pretend-woman.

Scientifically, there are only two genders. Period. If you died and hundreds of years from now someone finds your bones, forensic science would be able to tell which gender you were born as. You can not change it. You can alter it to fit what you mentally feel but the reality is that you cannot change your chromosomes.

This is what we get to when liberals have nothing left to fight for.
reply
9 ups, 2 replies
Contrary to what you and other might believe, gender is not a decision. If it was a decision, it would not be any different than choosing what clothes to wear. So, that leads to the conclusion that "gender fluidity" should be treated as a mental condition. BUT, it is not PC to say that nowadays.
reply
5 ups
The way I see it, you're either one or the other. Guy or girl. What you're born with, you're stuck with and you should embrace who you are.
reply
6 ups, 1 reply
Gender Identity isn't a decision. Genderfluid, Genderqueer, and/or Agender People weren't able to control their discomfort with not being Male/Female.
reply
2 ups
But that very discomfort does not have to be a result of some innate characteristic to which they were born. If they are uncomfortable being what they are in fact, genetically and biologically, then that person needs help in coming to terms with that cause. What they do NOT need is mutilative surgery and society's help in facilitating their denial.

I think its about equality, not superiority, and maybe we need to ignore the front-line SJWs, pretty much on any "cause", they often are the most extreme hardline full-time activists looking for a career in extreme activism. But it comes down to the basic needs of an everyday transgendered person, which is hard to see without walking a mile in their shoes. There was *one* person, either a DNC staffer or a Democratic Congressional aide, I don't remember which; who did testify in a case unrelated to Ben Ghazi, the DNC hack, or the Clinton email server; who died in a car accident *after* he testified, not before.

reply

I've heard Bryan Fischer (of the AFA) say on numerous occasions that something isn't legal unless there is a law specifically making it legal. By that logic, it's illegal to drive down the street in a red car while eating a banana and listening to Beethoven, because there is no law saying you are allowed to do that. Before you can determine what is perverted, you have to have a standard by which to determine what is normal. Since no liberal will admit that there is any objective standard, then normality/deviancy is completely up to the individual's preference, and anything is permitted.
reply
1 up
I'm pretty sure there are liberals who believe in objective standards
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Why must I have a normal standard? I honestly hate norms.. they're what make ISIS have their own description of what a Muslim should be.
Why shouldn't an individual's preferences be recognized? If everyone should be the same and have the same comforts, wouldn't a society be like those portrayed in Equilibrium and V for Vendetta?
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
I'm sorry, I have to laugh...you come out against norms and celebrate individual preference, but deny individual preferences to of members of ISIS, all in the same breath. Your are effectively saying that there should be no norms, except for those norms (in Islam, for example) that disagree with your idea of norms. Unless you have some measuring stick which is not defined by personal opinion, there is no way to define what is normal and what is perverted.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
You've missed the point. I'm saying the norms that ISIS has made for Muslims has resulted in millions of deaths. I'm comparing their norms to American norms. I don't embrace ISIS's norms, and I never would. Would it make much sense for everyone to have the same sense of what is right and wrong?
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
My root question is this: why are American norms better than radical Islamic norms? Once a culture decides that there is no *objective* moral standard (a standard above opinion, one that applies to all men of all cultures in all ages under all circumstances), then there is no basis for saying that the ISIS norms are better than atheist norms, Christian norms, anarchist norms, facist norms or tyrannical norms. In fact, once you cross that line, there is no such thing as a "norm" -- a norm for you might be a deviancy for me, and vice versa.
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
Who says that such an objective, universal moral standard even exists? It's a nice idea, to be sure, but that doesn't mean it's real. I live in the United States. Much of my standard of right and wrong comes from the American society in which I live. People who fight for ISIS have a different standard of right and wrong. By my standard, ISIS is reprehensible. By their standard, I am.
reply
0 ups
Exactly my point. By saying one standard is "better" or "worse" than another, it is implied that such an objective standard exists, and that one standard conforms more closely to it than another. But it is absurd to exalt one action or moral code over another without such a yardstick. Without it, who makes the assessment of what is right and wrong? But assume for a moment that you're right, and there is no objective standard, that the ISIS standard of beheading those who disagree with them is just as acceptable as ours for calling it reprehensible. If such is the case, then why am I and others like me called out for believing that abortion ends a human life and acting on that belief? Or for believing that being transgendered or multigendered is a condition that should not be encouraged? If one standard is as good as another, then surely my standard ought to be tolerated as readily as yours, or Putin's, or ISIS.

I assert that, whether we consciously admit it or not, we all know that there is indeed an objective moral standard. We may dance around it intellectually, but it is as futile as trying to reason your way into believing that there is no gravity. You may convince yourself by some tortured logic that it doesn't exist, but we will all fall afoul of the consequences despite our reasonings.

reply
5 ups, 2 replies
Gender is justified by science. In fact, science proves Gender fluidity.
reply
3 ups, 1 reply
How does science prove the ability to change sex?
reply
4 ups, 2 replies
There are actually certain brain structures to people of different gender identities. For example, a trans-male's brain can match a cis-male's brain. Same with trans-women and cis-women. It is because of the LGBT that science can move forward.

One's chromosomes aren't being changed. However, we don't let our chromosomes dictate our lives.
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
No, we let our chromosomes dictate our gender because that's their job.
reply
2 ups, 2 replies
We let them dictate our birth gender, but not our minds, and definitely not our lives. No government is to enforce that, otherwise it is oppression.
reply
3 ups, 1 reply
I never suggested that a government enforce it. I'm merely stating that you can't change your sex with your mind.
2 ups
Of course not. You can't change your birth sex with your mind, but you can definitely exit a state of discomfort.

Dear people who "Have 5 Genders"
1. There are only 2 genders (even most liberals acknowledge this, though they accept that there are many different sexualities and accept transgenders)
2. Even if there were 5 genders, you would only be one of them (one person, one gender, even if your gender isn't the gender you were born with)
3. Don't even get me started on science (the previous two were just common sense).

BUT ALSO: Dear conservatives, please stop beating the dead horse. We already know that you hate, fear, and dismiss transgenders (well, maybe not hate and/or fear, but still you get the meaning I hope) and like exaggerating the amount the liberals get involved with transgenderism (which is pretty hard to do), but please stop wasting submissions on a political message we have already heard and come up with something funny instead....

I certainly don't dismiss them. They are people who need to be loved, like any other. Unfortunately, they are suffering from grave delusions, and we have decided to treat those delusions by calling them reality. They need help and we're playing along instead.

There's something to be said for common consent. More than 95% of all humans who have ever lived have been theists of some sort. More than a billion people alive today are Christians. I don't know the numbers for gender dysphoria, but I would not be surprised if the proportion were even smaller than the opposite of the theist/atheist one. This condition is a clear aberration and all available evidence suggests that it conflicts with physical reality.
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
You are making a textbook argumentum ad populum fallacy. Just because x% of humans have been or are theists, that says nothing about whether theism is actually true.

http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum
reply
[deleted]
3 ups, 1 reply
I didn't make a logical argument about the existence of God. My argument was nothing more than the common sense statement that it is extremely unlikely that a belief that is extremely widely held across time and space can be treated the same way as a belief that is unique to a tiny fraction of people and unrelatable between people.
There is nothing that can convince me that an XY person with male organs is actually a woman. The assertion contradicts reality. There is, on the other hand, an infinite number of possible events that could convince an honest atheist that he is mistaken. Even Christianity is falsifiable - only produce the bones of Christ and the whole thing will deserve to be burned to the ground. But the only way the MTF person can be correct is if we adopt an understanding that reality is entirely subjective. So if you accept that a transgendered person is correct, you have no choice but to accept that the theist is correct - all theists, even the ones who contradict each other. Because who are you to say otherwise anymore?
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
A belief that is extremely widely held across time and space can be just as true or just as false as a belief that is unique to a tiny fraction of people.

Christianity doesn't stand or fall on the bones of Jesus. The Bible makes claims about Jesus, and I do not believe those claims are supported by evidence or reality. The burden of proof rests on the one making the claim. If Christians claim Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into the sky, the burden of proof is on them to prove it true. Just because we don't have the bones of Jesus is not sufficient proof of a resurrection.
reply
[deleted]
1 up
On the contrary, St. Paul is quite clear that if Jesus is not raised, we Christians are the saddest, stupidest people on earth. That's why I say - and mind carefully exactly what I am saying - that a single bone from the little toe of Jesus would destroy the Church immediately where two thousand years of persecution, corruption, and ineptitude have failed.
The lack of a body is, of course, not conclusive evidence.
