depression can come from many things, stress from school, the worry of living in an unstable environment, or just natural selection. (depression can just be God giving you the middle finger)
some people also don't have the ease of certain things, not only that, but also back then, there were definitely more depressed people, but they had to hide it due to society expectations. you shouldn't be looking down on someone just for depression, even if we live in a "heaven" right now.
