They're already able to make up "stories" out of nowhere. "Russia collusion" and the rest. Showing up to the Whitehouse just gets them called out and fact checked on live "tv". One would think they would appreciate not spending money to go and sit and not be called on. It will give them more time make up stories to air.
I think he is just trolling them. They will still get the press releases and will not miss out on any information. The person giving the briefing does get a break from stupid questions, but this changes nothing. The only thing he did was send a message.
