Why are auto makers scaling back EV production? Even before Trump 2.0, they had started to scale back.

EV's were pretty much in the same ballpark price-wises with their hybrid / ICE equivalents, so what is causing people to stop wanting to buy EV's?

If you don't already, you should consider moving to Taxifornia. Here, there is a full scale war against the automobile, including EVs. Sure, our socialist leaders would prefer we drove an EV, hence driving all the oil companies out of our formerly great state. But they want us all on bikes or riding puke-filled buses and light rail, if they had their choice, even over EVs.

EVs won’t drive oil companies out. They will need oil to generate all the power needed to keep them charged.

We've actually been running out since we started using the stuff. Saudi Arabia has been past peak for years now. That fracking that we're so gleefully bragging about is squeezing the last drops out of the sponge. That's it. Once it's gone, it's super gone. That was supposed to be the oil that the grandkids were going to utilize. They're not anymore.

When we finally do run so low on oil that it becomes cost prohibitive to extract it that's when these alternate energy sources will finally be viable without government subsidies.

The technology is decades behind what it would have been had we kept up with it. Solar alone is basically at a 1980s level, maybe already early 1990s thanks to the Chinese.

Too late for what? As long as oil extraction is still feasible it will always out do these alternate energy sources because of the density of energy it contains. Solar is basically at . . . 2020s levels. If it could be made more productive by now it would have been. It’s not like other countries have greater solar energy production because they pumped more money into research.

It doesn't work like that. You don't wait till you run out of something, and then go to the Home Depot looking for an alternative replacement. And then you wonder why we're decades behind on development.

Meanwhile, China, who has been investing far more in solar and other energy development, just found out how to replicate photosynthesis in the lab.

That may not be the proper way to do things but it’s how it’s being done. There has to be a big enough incentive and government subsidies aren’t enough.
