When African slaves started coming to the Americas the majority of the slaves did not come to the colonies and later the United States of America. We imported about a quarter of all of the slaves brought over. About 250,000.

African slaves were bought from other Africans, not from white people.

Originally we brought them over as indentured servants but somewhere around 1650 a black slave owner sued for the right to own a slave. Indentured servants were not owned, slaves were. Anthony Johnson was that black man who sued in the English court for the right to own another human being and won.

At one point in the US about 30,000 slave owners were black.

There would not have been slavery in the US if it wasn't for the fact that we needed a unanimous effort to fight against England for our freedom. Before the Revolutionary War less than 10% supported secession from England. Of the 13 colonies all but 2 colonies voted to end slavery. We had to have it unanimous or else those 2 states most likely would have sided with England and we would still be citizens of the UK. But that meant 11 colonies were willing to end slavery.

Most of the founding fathers were opposed to slavery. EVEN slave owners, like Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were opposed to slavery. Jefferson, when he was a state legislator in Virginia, introduced legislation several times that would allow slaves to be set free but was never able to get those bills passed.

Only about 7% of the US population owned slaves. A lot of people in the north AND THE SOUTH opposed slavery.

There is so much more to this country than what they indoctrinated to believe. History, like life, is not all one sided. Up until the last few decades American thought for themselves. There is a whole lot less of that today.
