Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to US president Barack 0bama in 2009 failed to achieve what the committee hoped it would, its ex-secretary has said.

Geir Lundestad told the AP news agency that the committee hoped the award would strengthen Mr 0bama.

Instead, the decision was met with criticism in the US, external. Many argued he had not had any impact worthy of the award.

Mr Lundestad, writing in his memoir, Secretary of Peace, said even Mr 0bama himself had been surprised, external.

"No Nobel Peace Prize ever elicited more attention than the 2009 prize to Barack 0bama," Mr Lundestad writes.

"Even many of 0bama's supporters believed that the prize was a mistake," he says. "In that sense the committee didn't achieve what it had hoped for".

Removed nearly all from Iraq,

Got rid of the remaining Al-Qaeda top brass...

Starting to restoring diplomatic relations between Cuba and the US,
New START Treaty,

TPP treaty which would have removed trade barriers between Pacific Nations while drawing them closer to the US and away from China, but then Congress screwed that up.

And of course, the Iran nuclear deal, which ended that program as well as opened the door for further normalization of ties with Iran.

Sudan peace,

Ethiopia-Tigray Peace Agreement,

Mediated talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan....

Israel violated the ceasefire today yet again. It's not a peace treaty, it's a ceasefire, and Israel has violated it many times.

India and Pakistan did not ask anybody to mediate anything, and they've been going at it since 1947. They're not going to stop just because somebody's taking credit for something that something something whatever.

Cambodia and Thailand agreed that it was okay for the United States to stop attacking it during the Vietnam War. yay
