Funny how they always whine about the Electoral College... Like they don't know what counts when it comes to elections... How stupid is that?

I see it over and over from little dictators within the party

Well, they hate playing by the rules when they can't compete fair and square...

Just to be clear; the electoral college needs to be abolished.

Oh, it never will be. I understand that.

But it needs to go. It's anti-democratic.

Ironic that libs love the word democratic when you see how they handled the primaries
1 up, 2mo
Bullshit.
1 up, 2mo
No it has a purpose that it has fulfilled for over 250 years. It works much better than anything else so far.

Nah, i like it when new York and California can't override the rest of the country, thanks.

My state of NC fought a war because we would not be dictated to by some king or parliament in London, and we aren’t about to be dictated to by those in NYC or San Francisco. NC is going to be run by North Carolinians.

The way you would have it nobody but NY and California would have a voice in the presidency. Whenever that happens there are only two options: a velvet divorce as with Czechia and Slovakia, or civil war as with Sudan.
0 ups, 2mo
That wasn't a civil war, Jan 6th was a guided tour when they got let in by capital police.

Even if we wanted to, which we don’t, it would require a constitutional amendment since the EC is enshrined in the Constitution. (See Article II section 1). Good luck getting 38 states to surrender their sovereignty over to a handful of cities in NY and CA.

Surrender sovereignty to less than 20% of the population? Really?

Nobody’s surrendering sovereignty by the EC.

Yes, we are. Compare the influence Wyoming has to California.

Let me explain it to you in an easy way to understand. Suppose ten thousand people lived in a community and one was accused of a crime for which the penalty is death. Let us suppose that 5001 of them believe he is guilty by circumstantial evidence. In a direct “popular vote” these 5001 can lynch him without a trial because they have the majority — his rights do not matter. However, using an electoral college system the people choose twelve of their number to hear all sides of the issue, and get to critically examine the evidence — some of which is not known to the general public. We call that a jury but it works the same way. And it has worked in courtrooms around the world for millennia.

Skimming through and not catching the names, not sure if I understand how that's a comparison between the influence exerted by Wyoming and that by California. In fact, pretty sure I don't understand.

No worries, it's probably just me.

Simply put Wyoming would have no voice in a popular vote, but even with an electoral college California and NY still have one. It’s the way minority rights are maintained.

This may seem difficult to believe, but even I get bored hearing myself needlessly repeating myself over and over and over again.
But seeing as you don't seem to suffer from that, do you really require me to repeat my question yet again for the nth time?
Question. Answer. Explain. Make me understand. I'm waiting.

Popular Governments (Democracies) fail due to “instability, injustice, and confusion”, and “measures are too often decided, not according to the rules of justice and the rights of the minor party, but by the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority”.

James Madison — Principal Author of the Constitution

So more voting power to people with unpopular opinions. That seems fair to you?

Life for tens of millions of people in my state is decided by 1 million people on the other side of the country. Is that fair?

How is that minority overriding the will of the majority any better than a monarch in Britain overriding the will of North Carolina’s people as you mentioned above?

And if that minority opinion is good, shouldn’t it gain traction by spreading to other people who see its merit instead of needing extra voting power?

Are you against government assistance programs like most conservatives? Because the electoral college is basically government assistance for opinions not good enough to be popular.

And neither do you.

“ I have no understanding of what you're saying here. And neither do you.”

Ok I’ll dumb it down for you. Your inability to understand can never be overcome by any amount of explanation.

You already did that:

Nope. I think I’ll keep the system we’ve been using for, how long? 273 years?
0 ups, 2mo
Of course, because whenever the popular vote and electoral vote have been different, it’s favored conservatives.
6 ups, 3mo
😆 no I don’t think we will.
