Florida is horrible, full of bad drivers, painful heat and humidity, threatened hurricanes and tornados, wildfires, fire ants, mosquitos and their tropical diseases, lightning capital of the nation, deadly wildlife like alligators in every pond, lurking to eat your pets or even grandma, sharks ready to eat you at the beach, red tide makes it hard to breathe near the beach, plus massive fish kills stink, the drinking water stinks, homeless bums begging on streetcorners, over half the people never lerned to speak English, the rest are rednecks with guns itching for a chance to shoot someone, the rent is too damn high, and over 22 million are trapped on a peninsula who can't escape any further south, or to the east, or to the west because three sides of water surround you. We are full, we can't accept any more carpetbaggers and we can't leave. I was brought here against my will when I was only 5, and now I'm 72 and I can't escape. The unrelenting sunshine attacks your car's uphostery and peels the paint from your house.
No matter who you are, you can find some groups in Florida will hate you. Stay away!

Because the South is generally economically depressed, distressed/repo'd/tax seizure per-acre prices are temptingly lower than the national average and, in many areas, building code enforcement is lax AF if what you're building is strictly for personal use.

Hundreds are moving South from the West Coast, North East, and the Midwest. What "kind" are they? They are refugees from crazy Leftist policies.

Cheaper housing.

Far more are actually moving to the interior West, states like Colorado, Arizona, Nevada...

People are also moving to Florida - SOUTHERN FLORIDA - because beaches and whatnot. They sure ain't moving to Tallahassee and other parts North & rural for reasons I need not explain. Bear in mind, most moves to Florida tend to be temporary, as what initially seems awesome starts getting a tad boring after a while and the values of homes tend to dip rather badly during recessions.
I have a saying since the late 1980s: "Everybody moves to Florida. For 2 years." Or at least somebody they know. I know quite a few, they've come back every time, or moved elsewhere.

The Carolinas & Georgia are pretty decent, but as for the rest of the South, unless you're including Texas (Fort Worth, San Antonio...), "Let's move there" said nobody ever.

People are also moving to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont... for the same reasons, it's cheaper.

In Wilmington, NC they can't build houses fast enough. They are political refugees escaping Leftist policies.
3 ups, 10mo
There is a crap ton of people from Cali who mived to Tennessee. I can already feel the heavier traffic from so many people who moved over in the past 2 years.

Is Wilmington, NC in the vicinity of that?

"In Wilmington, NC they can't build houses fast enough."

But they sure do try, don't they?
What's with all the particle board and sheetrock? And why are houses already falling apart when the family moves in?
Hurricanes and tornadoes like it was confetti, and the Home Depot still doesn't carry bricks and cinder blocks.

Modda, you are just making stuff up. You don't know anything about the different building codes in every Southern state. "Home Depot still doesn't carry bricks and cinder blocks?" That is just a foolish thing to say. You are talking out your ass.

They have building codes? What, as to the grade of particle board they use?
1 up, 10mo
What grade particle board do they use on the West Coast, NY, and Chicago to board up all the shops after looting?

Yeah, I'mma go canoeing in a flooded river valley.

I live in the Bronx. New York.

No extended backwoods families hiding behind trees with guns and a taste for......... pork around here.

Things tend to be a little bit more face to face and hand to hand round these parts,,,

People were moving to California, Chicago, NY in the 50s. What's that got to do with the OP? I think you are going for another strawman argument. Why are people moving to the South in 2024? Focus.

No, they don't.
Blue States tend to have Blue urban areas as well - they're Blue, remember? Those urban areas are not just bigger than what Red States would call urban areas, Blue State urban areas have populations that are even larger than the entirety of some of those Red States.

If what you said was the case, the crime rates of Blue States and Blue State urban areas would a skewed even higher.

Further, it's the less densely populated rural areas in the South that have higher per capita violent crime rates.

That's true, even at those ridiculously low prices, they're still overpriced. But hey, it's either that or the septic tank. Or the outouse. Wonder if they'll ever get proper sewage over them parts? Are they still waiting for us to do it for them?

Ain't sure if you ain't heard yet, but the Bronx, in fact the rest of New York City as well - including Staten Island - has had a modern sewage system served by sewer pipes going back quite a bit.

I'm sure that's difficult to process, but being a modern city 'n all, well it's possible that London had them first but basically New York had them second then. On the planet.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, what do you expect, like with everything else, they're in massive denial.
The usual projection/deflection/confession.

Just look at Col.Jack's comments about Deliverance and Georgia and what not. He's denying something while trying to taunt with it, as if some movie exploiting certain tropes about Appalachians was a documentary, one to be proud of, no less.

Yeah, Just because the south has that History doesn’t mean they want to bring it back. Do you think the Germans want the Nazi Reich back?
1 up, 10mo,

Yes, actually Far Right/Facist movements have been on the increase throughout Europe. Italy, France, Hungary, of course, Russia - even Poland - and yes, believe it or not, Germany. While a big part of their ire happens to be centered around recent immigrants, extreme anti-Semitism has made an alarming come back.

Mind you, anti-Semitism isn't exactly rare to begin with in Europe, such hate in general tends to be rather common and accepted - 2000 years of ill will didn't just dissipate because Hitler died. It's rather shocking chatting with people online from the UK or the rest of Europe. They can be rather casual either way they express it, like it's no big deal.

In Britain alone, hatred against Jews, Gypsies, Irish, and - I kid you not - gingers tends to be a given. This is even with the PC/SJW crowd, as well as with everybody else.

Nationalism is on the rise in reaction to mass immigration and Marxist ideology creeping into our institution. Extremism breeds extremism.

How about the good ol' days in L.A., Chicago & NY? Sweatshops, mafia, poverty, exploitation of immigrants, etc. Sure, the South had its struggles years ago, but so did everyone else. Segregated neighborhoods still exist there.
1 up, 10mo,
1 reply
When things like slavery and segregation ended in the North, there were no mass movements to bring them back, let alone century-spanning ones.

Oh, and sweat shops, organized crime, poverty, exploitation of immigrants, etc, are hardly regional phenomenon. Although they may be more obvious in areas with actual growing and profit generating economies.

Still doesn't explain the "FACT" that people are moving down South where it ain't so damn crazy. God, guns, good manners. Kiss my rebel ass! Love it or leave it!
1 up, 10mo,
1 reply
Correct, doesn't explain it at all, because nobody is moving there.
Nevada is not the South, Arizona is not the South. Heck, only Northern Florida is really part of the South, culturally, anyways. Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale.... Those are hardly places you would call Southern. And people who move there soon move elsewhere anyways.
2 ups, 10mo
I know for a fact people are moving down South. I see it in Wilmington, NC. Our population is exploding. Raleigh and Charlotte are growing like crazy. Texas is booming. Leftist policies, lenient on crime, defunding the police, taxes, and regulations that hurt businesses are some of the reasons. Modda, how can anyone take you seriously when you make up facts? It's happening right in front of your face.
