Up voted.

I wonder if we will be allowed to own gas generators when they force us to buy electric cars? Just wondering how I can plan my life and what I can get away with when the global fascists take over.

That was a well written and thought out comment.
It won’t make me run out and buy one. I like the range of my fossil fuel chariots. I can travel over 500 miles between fill ups. And, when I need to fill’er up, I can find a fueling point just about everywhere.
5 ups, 7mo
And when you do stop, it takes, what 5-8 minutes…instead of 30-40 or more

Can’t get the batteries wet in a heavy downpour.
Can’t get off the beaten path to enjoy private solitude
Can’t see a reason to pay extra money and get less

Making electric cars creates more emissions

The raw materials for making the car have to be mined, and the process of mining creates a lot of greenhouse gases. Then the raw materials have to be refined before they can be used, which again emits more greenhouse gas.

Factoring in everything, the carbon cost of an EV is higher than a fossil fuel car... for the first 8 years... but then in time, you'll also have the cost of replacing that huge battery on the EV...
0 ups, 7mo,
1 reply
The 8 years is if you charge the car at a public terminal that gets its electricity from a provider that uses fossil fuels. It is 4 years if they are a hybrid provider. It's 1 year if you charge at home off of solar panels.
1 up, 7mo
Yes... most will use public terminals when out on the road and needing a charge... People in America love their car drives...

Too bad most of the parts needed come from China.

EV technology is clearly not ready for prime time. The infrastructure to power EVs is not ready either. I'm not against EVs. I am against unrealistic government mandates. Wait until the technology is ready. Let the market call the shots, not government policy.
3 ups, 7mo,

Yeah, that's what they said about seatbelts, low emission standards, and leaded gasoline too *cough cough*

Yes. Lead. In gas.
Everyone was getting brain damaged from the gallons of soot cars roared out because........ why not?
4 ups, 7mo,
1 reply
Mandating reasonable safety standards and mandating technology are not comparable. If we went 100% renewable today, everyone would starve. We don't have the technology yet.
2 ups, 7mo,
1 reply
That's nice.
If we went back to leaded gasoline, there wouldn't be anyone left with the mental capacity to notice everyone was starving.

Me old. Me remember the same exact excuses back then for all these things and more.

PS: We had the technology back in 18frikkin90. That's 1890 - NOT 1990. 130 years ago.
1 up, 7mo,
1 reply
Gasoline cars proved to be superior in 1890 just as they are still superior in 2023. Most of the US did not have electricity. Gasoline cars have always had far better range. If not for the battery technology, EVs would be cheaper and more reliable. Maybe someday.
0 ups, 7mo
Well we got less than 50yrs of it left so that's plenty to finally get around to switching to, um, some new Sci Fi blue wave energy, right?

The Cannibal Riots of 2065 won't be pretty.

Oh, then let's build the infrastructure! Simple solution.

Now, if you could just tell your Representative in Congress to stop voting no to that...
5 ups, 7mo,
1 reply
So build more nuclear power plants? I'm all for it. By the time the plants are up and running maybe EV technology will be ready.
[deleted]
2 ups, 7mo,

We don't have the infrastructure for EV's but you're still a fan of building more nuclear plants???

You really have no idea what you believe, do you?
4 ups, 7mo,
1 reply
I don't understand. How is that inconsistent? More electric power plants would mean more infrastructure for EVs.
1 up, 7mo
We don't have the battery technology yet. Current batteries are underpowered, expensive, not good environmentally, and explosive. Nobody wants an EV because they are not as efficient as gas-powered cars. These are facts.

Why do socialists promote high-speed rail and EVs? Rail is obsolete technology, and EVs are futuristic technology that is not yet ready. It seems that ideas are more important to socialists than facts. When ideas are more important than people, people suffer. Mao's Great Leap Forward is a good example.
[deleted]

Rail is AWESOME. Countries with high speed rail have so many advantages over us with movement of freight and personnel. They can't imagine living without it - which is the exact opposite of obsolescence by definition.
1 up, 7mo
Obsolete? Where do you live, in Greenland?

Correct... government policies made it cheaper for car companies to move their operations abroad...

Government policies?
5 ups, 7mo,

Again, bullshit.
In its infancy, EV technology wasn’t viable People didn’t want them. They weren’t reliable. They didn’t have the range. They were tiny. The cost was and remains enormous.

Additionally, Government regulations and high taxes drove those businesses over there.
Unions also drive manufacturers oversees.

Fair assumption indeed, do you know me from somewhere?

I'm drawn to politics because that's where the riot is.
Chaos sires creativity, so a nudge here, a poke in the eye there, and it's confetti pinata hootenanny time at ye olde drunkards' ballroom again.
Gosh, it was so much fun before this timer crap. Now I can't even post anything with anything slightly akin to a smirk tucked in. Just using this template can get me another 48.

These tunes reflect my state of mind while shooting the big rubber cannon when under siege:

Angry Samoans - Ballad of Jerry Curlan
(look at the lyrics of that one)

The Pattern - Unnatural Silence

I've always enjoyed reading your comments even during spats back and forth with you a while back.

You have a admirable skill for visual descriptive and animated speech conveying your mood and thoughts.

Even though we may not agree on the ridiculous political spectrum, I have a lot of respect for you. I believe you to be the only one on here who can actually meme with your words.
3 ups, 7mo
It's the gift that keeps on giving!

One of my taglines from way back was, "My memes are crappy, but at least they look pretty!" Gosh, if anyone knew how many gallons of time I waste on proper font and color selections for my captions.

imgflip - image, get it?
Ok, the flip part sucks, unless someone truly enjoys typing a wall a text and then ending it with "done" only to have the "d" whisk them to some random crappy meme from 12yrs ago...

It's a visual medium first, comments, second - and a distant second at that.

This site is the Downtown Macy's Chistmas window display and we're the loon on the corner hollering how the microwaves on our cellies will turn us into mutated automatons for our alien overlords from planet Zarzom who will make us mine gold for them on Mars while they steal our water because there's no H2O in the rest of the universe. Then they'll eat us for dinner, which means I won't get to watch It's a Wonderful Life on tv this year and thus won't be able to keep aimlessly repeating, "B-Bu-But Mr Goward, I, uh, I uh, M-M-Mr Goward!" because I have no life.
3 ups, 7mo
Lol...you have a very unique and humorous intellect about you.

I'm thinking you're a fan of art and music and don't really care much for politics but you're simply entertained by it.

Would that be a fair assumption?

You forgot the bonus - the 3 hour stop for "fuel" on your way home from work.

If you're really lucky you'll get the super lucky bonus - getting to wait the two hours for a rollback to tow you to your 3 hour wait at the charging station.

Im gonna build combination charging stations/massage parlors...at least then the green new deal will have a happy ending.
