Not a bad idea for public schools.

Deluded conservative parents can bitch and moan all they want. Facts don't care about their feelings.

Yes. I'm totally sure these green-haired goofballs have all the facts... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-nMlMU48wI

What is it with your weird obsession with green hair? Did someone with green hair murder your family?
2 ups, 2y
Did you watch the video? Most of the lunatic teachers in it have green-dyed hair

Classrooms in most schools are already surveilled and watched by the school, so I don't see how letting parents watch would be like the Panopticon.

Ask the students how they would feel being livestreamed . . . not just for their parents, but for anyone who wanted to watch.

Why would we ask the students how they feel? This would be for their protection- feelings don't play into it.
2 ups, 2y,

We would ask students how they feel about it because: A) they are humans and have rights; and B) it might affect their school performance; and C) their families would certainly have to give consent.

Think what a boon to skeevy pedo types (and I thought the right wing claimed to be anti-pedophile?) to have all those young people's images streaming continuously.

They could require a parental log in you know.

So, would it be okay if any parent in your classroom, or any member of their family could watch your kid? There are still some issues there.

Countless stores, restaurants, malls, etc. already have security cameras that film children. My job has security cameras and most of the employees are under 18. Those employees’ parents don’t know the higher-ups who are watching the footage. That footage can potentially be watched by any creep who may work for such companies.

Again, creeps can already watch all the kids they want on TikTok. The genie’s already out of the bottle.

If you don’t want your child to potentially be filmed/watched by any creep, go live in an isolated Amish community.

In point of fact, parents in my state (and I'd guess in most) have the right to opt out of their children being filmed or photographed at school.
0 ups, 2y,

Um, no you can't. You have to sign the permission slip, or they will refuse to let your kids into the school.
0 ups, 2y
Absolutely not true.

I don't know where you live, but the school busses in my county all had cameras for the purpose of monitoring students. There was obviously no opt-out if your kid was going to ride the bus to school.
0 ups, 2y
My district doesn't offer bus service. You win some, you lose some, I guess.

What state/district are you in? There is no "I do not consent" box on the paperwork I'm given. If you even ask about , you're given a song and dance about how it's "not feasible". But then again, my son's virtual ID that he is required to have installed on his phone in order to get into his school everyday apparently has key logging spyware in it, so our district doesn't exactly respect rights to privacy. Also keep in mind that during online classes during the pandemic, schools had a window into every students home.
Modern privacy is an illusion at best. Most jobs/schools/ect (stuff that we need in order to live) even require apps for scheduling and stuff with ridiculous "permissions" that they won't function without (even though there are no logical reasons for those permissions). And I honestly doubt most apps are obeying the the restrictions we place on them anyhow.
I assume I can be listened to or observed at any time. It's just a sad reality of modern life.
0 ups, 2y
I certainly agree with you about the apps. Tech companies profit off of all our data.

Schools should be different, and are in our district, though. Unlike companies, they don't have a mandate to maximize profit, but to provide a free and equitable education for all students. The teachers and administrators I have talked with in my district (and my sons have collectively attended a good number of schools, while I have worked as an outside contractor at almost 20 more) take that duty very seriously.

During the homeschooling phase of the pandemic, some students never turned on their cameras, or (if they had the ability) used virtual backgrounds the whole time.

Really? Have you ever actually tried to opt your child out of it? While legally, you may be correct, unless you have money for an expensive lawyer (and if you have that kind of money, you would opt for private school anyhow), as a practical matter, it is impossible.
0 ups, 2y
Yep. I check the "I don't consent" box, initial it, and return it to the school with the rest of the registration packet. Easy!

Creeps can already watch all the kids they want on TikTok. The genie's already out of the bottle on that.

"and I thought the right wing claimed to be anti-pedophile?"

Ok, so at least we are agreed that it's the Left/Democrat Party that is home to pedophiles.

I wonder, just thinking out loud here, if we could invent something, like technology, that would allow us to only allow parents to view the classroom. Hmmmm.

Moreover, I wonder if we could do anything to assuage the fears of the students, who are likely live-streaming themselves every chance they get to begin with, by say, only having the camera pointed at the teacher, since it is the content of the teaching that is the concern here. Hmmmmm.

Of course, teachers, who stand in front of people all day long, will whine about their rights to be secretive about what they are actually doing. Project Veritas barely even uncovered the tip of this nasty iceberg.

I have long observed that people tend to believe that everyone thinks like they do, especially the myopic liberal mind. So I find it informative that you immediately pretend to be concerned that this would be quickly abused by pedophiles, as opposed to finding ways to make it work. Of course, you have no problem with all the teachers that turn up as pedophiles, nor have a problem with the grooming that is hitting kids from every angle, including that which is literally embedded in many curriculums around the country.

That's not how I read it, either. I was, of course, speaking of you, which begs the question- are you playing obtuse to tee a snarky reply up, or are you not pretending?

I read this as an anti-liberal, proto-fascist meme. So, yeah, your suggestion that this was a valid point of view for a liberal was "not how I read [the original meme]"

Since liberal and fascist are opposites, no worries there.

"Since liberal and fascist are opposites, no worries there."

Saying it does not make it so. We have plentiful examples from the last 50 years, where Democrats have held the House more than Republicans have.

It's odd how ignorant people are of what is really happening. I realize that the MSM and nearly all education institutions slap a veneer of lies all over the truth, but when one goes grocery shopping, or fills up the gas tank, none of those lies make it cost less. And then there's the fascist treatment of what happened on January 6th.

No, saying the Left/Liberals are not presently acting the fascists does not change the reality of what they are doing.
