Way to cherry pick. I had the discussion with a Swiss citizen about how safe his country was and how every adult male has an assault weapon at home. His opinion was that Swiss mental health care was outstanding and that the society, education, economy and policing had more effect on crime. Also, he brought up Israel as another country that was well armed, and said that mandatory military service seemed to have a beneficial effect on people having self confidence, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to handle some adversity in life without freaking out like so many Americans.

Japan also doesn’t have a “Diversity” problem like the West does. Much stricter immigration and you need to assimilate into their culture. But yeah, must be the gun control and not other factors.

His point was that a homogenous society is frequently more peaceful. That is another item that the Swiss grad student brought up. There are multiple languages spoken in Switzerland, but there is one language taught in school and that makes sure that every citizen can speak to their neighbors and coworkers.

California passed Prop 63, so yes, English is the official language (but not all states, since any right not specifically granted to the federal government by the Constitution remains a state issue.) And yet at my workplace, there are a lot of employees that if they need training in a task, must ask one of their Spanish speaking coworkers for help. Schools and immigration policies are both part of the complexities of society that I glossed over with the description of "the society, education, economy and policing" in my earlier comment. I didn't feel that this was sufficiently important to bring up initially. Only brought it up when you either misunderstood or didn't care about his point and just wanted to cobble together a charge of logical inconsistency.

Just outlawing guns doesn't always work. Even when an island nation creates an entire court system with the sole purpose of prosecuting gun crime. Here's a report from the Department of Justice on the subject.

You're still trying to pick on the diversity word, when he also mentioned immigration policies. He was poking holes in the idea that the lack of guns was the reason for a low crime rate. I still haven't seen anyone present evidence for that claim.

But yes, there are a number of factors involved

If I'm not mistaken, gun crime dropped drastically in Australia after they started heavily restricting guns after the Port Arthur massacre

Yeah, that pesky 2nd Amendment, always getting in the way...

Simple enough to fix. Pass an amendment cancelling it. That's the way around it.

Kids are learning about the eight parts of speech in school.
Free free to google what that is. When you see one specific part of it, you are NOT going to be happy.

'' Gay Communist Propaganda!'' You shall bellow, slamming your thick, chubby arm on your desk, your clothing covered in cheeto dust and other grime and dirt.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I read something like this.

Without a Constitution that is literally what we call it, meaning it constitutes what we as a nation are, and what we stand for, we have nothing.

Clearly you're an anarchist. If people like you were in charge (or actually running things, but not in charge... nobody would be in charge) more organized, and absolutely evil countries like China and Russia wouldn't just walk all over us geopolitically, they'd invade us and force us to bend to their will.

So pick your poison cowboy. Deal with that dusty old document that guarantees your freedoms and protects you from the tyranny of an out of control govt, or start to learn how to speak Chinese and/or Russian.

And a big THUMBS UP to 2ATom's reply.

I don't get it when reactionary Americans dunk on China for authoritarianism. Do you like capitalist dictatorship better????!???!?!?!!?! Jeez.

Besides the point, I'm not an anarchist.

You clearly are an anarchist. If you reject the very bones of our country, then the country is left with nothing in terms of structure and process. Nothing = anarchy.

And yes, I prefer what you mistakenly call "capitalist dictatorship" better than CCP authoritarianism, which is really just Xi being a brutal dictator.

Why do I feel that way? It's simple; in spite of the many flaws capitalism as an economic system has, when combined with the freedom guaranteed in our constitution, it makes for a country where more people have more opportunity to better their circumstance than any country in the world now, or any country that has ever existed.

The founding father's weren't idiots; quite the opposite. They knew they may not have come up with the best system. Hell, they knew it wasn't the best possible system, but just the best system going, AND it has built in mechanisms for improvement.

So yeah, I'll support a "300 year old piece of paper" over the CCP's brutal abuse of its own citizens, many of whom have zero chance of making their lives better.

And not to sound overly cliché, but there's nothing stopping you from going over there. What's stopping you? Unless you feel that you have a better life here than you would there. I think you know where I stand on that. Of course you have it better here. Caveat though, you have to want it and work for it. Is that a problem for you?

No. ''Nothing = Anarchy'' just doesn't sound right. An Anarchist isn't ''nothing''. Are you referring to this ''nothing'' being governance? Like, nothing in terms of government? In an Anarchist society, all forms of government, hierarchy, and organization are abolished. I believe in a government. I just believe we should deviate from the constitution, written by men that loved freedom so much that they deprived freedom and forced extreme physical labor upon slaves. Not very freedom-y to me. I mean, c'mon. be fair.

A man who pleaded guilty to child sex charges was killed during a shootout with Milwaukee police over the weekend at the conclusion of a high speed car chase that was ignited after he allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend just a few days after a judge blocked prosecutors from keeping him behind bars until his sentencing hearing.

You might’ve missed the part that he killed his ex-girlfriend who was very likely the mother of the 13-year old he had sex with and was instrumental to his original arrest.

Had the judge not released him to await sentencing instead of ignoring the prosecutions request, everybody would be still be alive. Sure, everybody includes a convicted pedophile, but do you really think he would’ve lived long in prison? Especially if word got out he raped a 13-year old?

To me, the optimal ending would’ve been keeping him locked up to await sentencing regardless if he plead guilty.

But maybe that’s just me.

No repercussions for the judge, but there should be. The one in this case has an obvious judgment deficiency, and that's not a good thing in a "judge".

Your points are valid.
I made my previous comment from the point of view of a law abiding citizen who is tired of soft-on-crime policies that result in known criminals walking free who then commit further criminal acts. Enough already.
