It's a common mistake. When teaching high school students, I liked this image but replaced affect and effect with verb and noun respectively.

No worries! You can affect a person by performing an action like pushing them into water. The effect is that they are wet. You can affect an effect. English is not a straightforward language. At least it isn't tonal as well.
