Example of disabled comment nonsense. Joseph Stalin was a monster, but I was unable to find a source for the meme’s figure of “61 million” murdered.

I *could* find support for Stalin’s actions directly killing at least 4 million people, probably more, and support for the secondary effects of bad Stalinist policies (famines, etc.) responsible for millions more deaths. Do those latter deaths count as “murder”? It’s debatable. The Holodomor in Ukraine for instance had both environmental and human causes — a bad harvest was exacerbated by Soviet persecution and mismanagement. Bottom-line, Stalin is in the same league as Hitler as a mass murderer, but Stalin wasn’t an order of magnitude worse than Hitler, as that meme claims.

All of these statistics are tedious and gruesome, but historical accuracy is important. It is accurate to regard Hitler as one of the worst mass murderers of all time.

Hitler’s crimes can’t be minimized by comparison with another dictator. Just as Stalin’s crimes can’t be minimized by comparison with Hitler. They were all horrible.

Good point. Because there's more to monstrous tyranny than just a body count. Gotta look at other things besides, such as overall impact on history.

I remember that user. He spreads disproven lies, and always disables comments.

Mao Zedong
I am seeing numbers from 45 million to 78 million deaths and majority was from his own citizens if memory serves right.

Yep, Mao is definitely up there, too. The caveats with assessing just how evil he was are: (1) China’s population was much larger than Russia’s or Germany’s, so the mistakes Mao made as a leader naturally translated to many more deaths; (2) The vast majority of those deaths were famine, not a deliberate genocide/extermination of minorities.

Famine of the sort that China sustained under Mao is certainly highly linked to bad government policy, but it’s a different category of death than a bullet in the head. Don’t get me wrong, Mao put bullets in his own citizens’ heads, too, but less than Hitler.

I know it doesn’t really matter to the dead. But when it comes to history, in terms of pure evilness, rounding up minorities in trains and sending them to die in the gas chambers of extermination camps (as Hitler did) beats out the mere mismanagement of the food supply (as Mao did).

What a great chance you had...you should have disabled your comments. Mind Blown!

I am unbothered with people commenting to my posts.

Unlike checking New and seeing a lot of Left leaning posts that are shoveling shit, with posters afraid of having shit shoveled back on them. (AKA disabled button.)

Here's an idea...have the right-wingers here make better and more civilised comments.

There is a girl I liked who I had been following on TikTok for about 10 months, but her original account that I started following her on had a restricted comments section & I was never able to comment. Around the beginning of February 2021, that account got banned, so she started a new one. Her new account did allow me to comment, so I left a comment giving my sympathy about her account getting banned & how I missed all her old videos (hundreds of videos going back to 2017). She liked my comment & replied asking who I was, so I explained to her. She seemed to like me, & to my surprise, she actually followed me back (even though I don't make any videos myself & I had no followers prior to that point).

But the next day I completely screwed it all up: I came onto her way too strong, & I ended up creeping her out, & she blocked me. I had just been following her for so long that I felt like I had gotten to know her, & I didn't stop to consider that she doesn't know me. And I was going through a situation that was very frustrating & disappointing (my job that I really liked closed permanently due to Covid). And someone had mentioned in the comments on one of her new videos that she had been crying a lot, and I felt even worse about her videos getting deleted & that there was nothing I could do to bring them back.

I tried apologizing to her a few times, but she never gave any response. This girl was my favorite TikToker, and I felt completely devastated that she didn't like me b/c I blurted out something that was dumb. Things would've started off much differently if I had just been able to comment on her original account.

About 2 weeks later, I found that she made another account where she was seriously begging for a boyfriend. Finding this account made me feel upset, but I never commented on it. It doesn't look like anyone ever took her up on her "girlfriend application".

It's now been over a year since I last attempted to message her. I hope that she'll eventually come to forgive me.

Moral of the story: disabling comments can prevent you from receiving hate, but it can also prevent you from hearing from people who really like you/your content and frustrate them.
