It would never happen, the PoliticsTOO community is far too tiny to ever catch Elon Musk’s attention. Though I’m flattered we are such a thorn in your side.
In that hypothetical, which would entail Elon Musk buying Imgflip as a whole, I wouldn’t leave. I would stick around to see what the heck Elon Musk actually has planned for the site.
Maybe Musk would surprise us all with his dazzling genius and make Imgflip amazing in ways we couldn’t have possibly imagined!
Or, maybe he would simply use a heavy hand to squash PoliticsTOO’s independent moderation, in the name of “free speech,” while hypocritically allowing conservative-leaning political streams to continue censoring liberal viewpoints (which they do, as they have the right to, but your average Imgflip conservative never seems to remember this).
Or, Musk would crack down on both the PoliticsTOO and the conservative-type streams and erode any distinction between them, making every political stream a “one size fits all” kind of place, basically like the politics stream.
In either of those cases, it’d be an easy call. We would simply leave and find a new online home, where we can moderate how we want, and Imgflip would bleed liberal users to the point that it becomes a right-wing echo chamber — much like alt-right platforms like Parler and Gab already are — and lose any pretense that the platform once had toward political neutrality and objectivity.
