We CAN use less oil. Simply driving more efficient cars including hybrids and EVs would allow us to use less oil. Maybe even enough to NOT have to buy foreign oil.
See, gasoline comes from ONE source: OIL. Electric can come from MANY sources that are NOT oil: Nuclear, Wind, and solar for example, all of which are homegrown. If we simply use more electricity (and less gasoline) to power normal consumer vehicles, the demand for oil would drop dramatically, which in turn would help to make the USA "energy independent." Oil companies are already embracing the idea of becoming "energy" companies because they are smart and see the profit motive. We as citizens should embrace this concept to be less dependent on outside countries for our energy, including oil which is necessary not just for gasoline but all kinds of other products and fuels.
