True Story. $2400 to pay me back for the school lunches my kids missed during the lockdown.

You should send it back to the Federal Gov't.

As a fiscal conservative, all jokes aside, I can tell you that the good news is, with me spending that money, at least my kids will be eating top quality lunches at school every day for over a year. Instead of the crap food the board of Ed gets with it. The school lunches are literally worse than prison food.

Not to be whatever, but Fiscal Conservative? This should be a literal "Put your money where there mouth is" deal.

From 3rd grade on, it was lunchbox/bag for us. The funny thing was nothing makes kids (as in the whole school) yearn for school lunches more than going to a school where the cafetria doesn't make any.
An early life lesson, and it was for free,,,

You can’t refund it.

Yes you can, simply by not using it.

I did let about $800 expire. But the point is, with me spending that money, I get premium brand name deli counter foods. And brand name fruit. And brand name snacks. The school serves up less than prison quality food with that money. It is an absolute disgrace how they piss all the tax money away. At the rates they pay every school should have a premium, brand name deli counter. Not food worse than prisons.

People on Food Stamps tend to not be able to buy prime stuff, then again, not many get $2400 tossed at them either, and like GW Bush, allowance has been increased since 2020 in order for those accustomed to better fare than the poor to get along upon loosing their jobs last year. I heard of it days ago being somewhere round 25% higher, but I gotta double check that, because that is insane.

I'm not even going to ask how the comparison between prison and cafeteria food was gauged (heh heh, couldn't resist), but like I said about my school not having any, or even people now whining about airplane food NOT being provided for most tickets anymore...

Anyways, in regards to school lunches, people can't demand budget trimming and not see any.
There are those that may recall Reagan categorizing ketchup as filling a vegetable requirement.

It’s disgraceful. All I can say about prison food is that my kids can’t eat the school food even if it’s free. From what they tell me it is not edible.

Actually had heard on the news here on occasion about it being pretty awful, wasn't sure how accurate that was or some kids getting artistic with the food when they took pics.

Perhaps I was being harsh, bypassing my point in a sense, or rather, forgetting the essence of it while focusing on observations from yesteryear.
Hey, food is food, better is better, and we all pay into this (to some degree or another) and regradless how much that is, it's still food, and these days with prices rising and the 2nd year of it all going to heck, why not?

That can only mean it is going to get worse!

What do you think they make at subway? $22,000
What does a lunch lady make? $40,000
That’s reality.

pfffffft, find out what the janitor makes vs the average teacher.
Kids learning or mopping up puke, the more important of the two for those who work in schools is sadly obvious,,,

About $45,760 -not bad. Like everything else, janitors in the private market make 22,000 to 25,000 with no pension and minimal benefits. And no 2 months off a year.

It might even be more here for the Board of Ed in NY, not sure what it is for starters or for those after some years, but I've heard crazy stuff in the past but don't recall the numbers.
0 ups, 2y
It’s around $45,000 in NY. It’s a great job as far as janitors go.

I was told it was easier to give my children free lunch 2 decades ago even though I made 100 K. I actually talked to the Principal about it. She said that's the way the system was set up. I said OK, I was just checking to make sure. LOL! Sad really!! actually think their should be no free lunches or food stamps for any kids to be honest about it. But not my choice.
1 up, 2y
My kids bring lunch even though it’s free. Because it is that bad.

Garlic bread(either frozen or in the deli), plus pepperoni, plus cheese(sliced or shredded doesn't matter as long as there's enough to cover the bread). Oven 350 and about 10 minutes or so.
0 ups, 2y
Garlic powder on some on any kind of bread makes it garlic bread. It should do the trick.

American households throw out 40% of the food they buy. Right now, still, today.
And the fattest people on Earth are complaining about their subsidized food prices going up. Perhaps they'd like it better with the empty shelves they got to stock up on last year and stores rationing what people can buy.
