I'm pretty sure analogies are not a part of pubic school curriculum.

I'm pretty sure I'm a college graduate who paid his own way, paid off his loans in 2.5 years after I graduated, and have a 21 year career at one of the top 10 companies to work for.... Where analogies make up a good portion of my job, because I have to explain highly technical things to non-technical business decision makers.

But you are correct - public schools don't pay very much attention to analogies and how much they are taught to the students. Analogies are like street smarts - not taught in school.

I'm not arguing to your point here btw... You're spot on. If public schools did teach it, products of public education would see how these three points correlate to a secure border.

1. The contents of your home = your personal property
2. Your car = your personal property
3. Your phone = your personal property

4. The whole damn country = not your personal property

Your comparison is stupid; nobody is trying to steal the country.
Other people want a chance to improve their lives and work to get the same comforts you have, why do you begrudge them that?
3 ups, 3y
Because 1000s of others are doing Migration according to our immigration laws.

People that break laws are criminals. Illegally entering a country that has migration laws is literally trying to steal what others are working for. It's theft.

My comparison isn't stupid - you not being able to correlate it, might make you stupid though, might not.

Secure borders are a must. Not, in my opinion because of people coming here illegally to work. But the coyotes and drug cartels are an issue.

Thinking we can be more humane in our treatment of refugees isn't the same as wanting an open border. a wall is a dumb way to stop border crossings. Employ drones, aerostats, and patrol's. Much faster to implement and probably cheaper to maintain

Also at a time when we have refugees coming here and a labor shortage, why not fast track the screening of refugeees and issue work visas with a vaccine caveat?

Why not deport them and have them go through migration processes we have in place? Like hundreds of thousands of people do, that save money and apply for citizenship?

I agree they should have vaccination restrictions - but it's hard for the government to impose something on people not under their flag.

Because they are refugees at the border. I would say it's similar to why an emergency room doesn't generally tell people to go home and make an appointment. I'm not saying there shouldn't be triage to determine need, but I think we can do better. And if our regular process is so slow people are willing to go through the refugee process, then we have a whole other problem to deal with.

Now if we were in a position where we had more people looking for work than jobs available or something like that, what I'm suggesting probably wouldn't make sense. But that isn't currently the case.

And it is my understanding that vaccination is a condition of any legal entry. Their may be exceptions for people in tourist visas where they can just show a negative test, but I'm pretty sure vaccines are required for anyone immigrating. And if they aren't, they should be, with the standard caveats for Medical exceptions.

The United States isn't a Hospital. We aren't the Emergency Services for the world and shouldn't be trying to do that. It would be more akin to a University or College.

Colleges and Universities go through a screening process and let some people into their school and other they don't. Same as the United States allows some people citizenship and others not. Both have entrance exams as well.

Universities and Colleges have those items because just accepting anyone and everyone isn't a sustainable business model for the University. There are people who don't have what it takes to contribute to a good campus experience.

Now imagine if a Professors class scheduled for 90 minutes - with a maximum of 200 students, suddenly just has 275 students trying to sit down and learn. The 75 students who didn't pay tuition, didn't apply to the college - cause problems for the 200 that did apply, that did pay their tuition.

I don't think that's a good analogy. People have filed their homes or were driven out. They are camped outdoors in deplorable conditions.

I stand by my analogy - people who were willing to come and stand in line or wait in the emergency room to be seen. You do that if you have an urgent need. If your need isn't perfect, you make an appointment.

And I'm not saying give them permanent citizenship. I'm not saying let everyone in because the fact is we don't have unlimited resources, but just because we can't help all doesn't mean we can't help some.

We do help some. Literally every year through legal migration processes

I still say we could help more, especially given that refugees were shown to pay more in as taxes than they receive as benefits.

https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/4056060/Refugee-Report-Draft.pdf

Page 30 of the report has the fiscal breakdown and shows that over a 10 year period refugees have paid more into the system than they received.

I'm not trying to over simplify - there are a lot of refugees seeking help and to use a poor analogy, we only have so much room on the ship. However, we are currently under a worker shortage, and I'm thinking someone here on a work visa who's continued presence is dependent on having a job is going to find a job.

Not to get political, but...Trump rejected this draft report, supposedly because it wasn't what he wanted to hear (that refugees cost us). After this 55 page report was rejected, an official 3 page report was submitted that looked at what was spent on refugees, but didn't take into account any revenues they paid into the government in the form of taxes.

We aren't in a worker shortage... We are in a freebies from the government surplus. There's a difference. Worker Shortages happen when there aren't enough capable bodies to cover the work. There are plenty of capable citizens to cover the work - we have a surplus of those that prefer to mooch instead of work.

Unemployment insurance claims continue to drop.

In the week ending October 9, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 293,000, a decrease of 36,000 from the previous week's revised level. This is the lowest level for initial claims since March 14, 2020 when it was 256,000.

I'm not sure the handouts thing actually reflects reality so much as it is just something that people say. Some people retired. Maybe some people are only working one job instead of two. But for whatever reason we have approx 1 million more job openings than people looking for work.

I really don't know that some of these people might not run through savings and go back to work...but the fact is pay is going up in a lot of fields due to competition to hire.

I'll point out that Trump had really low unemployment numbers - which is a good thing. But the labor shortage in certain fields was happening then too. Record low unemployment also meant there were fewer people looking for work. I think a lot of our problems that people try to blame politically on the other side can be traced back to both sides. The supply chain issues, the labor shortage, etc. These were issues that were there before. We were relying too much on imports without a clear idea on what it meant to us if a wrench fell into the gears.
