Berry has a track record of being outspoken about racial injustice. Two summers ago, after winning gold at the 2019 Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, she raised a fist on the podium and was slapped with a yearlong probation for violating international rules that prohibit protests inside stadiums and during ceremonies. Berry said it cost her sponsors, including Nike. "For me, it was extremely devastating because they cut off all my revenue," she told CNN last year.

Her brand is what’s important to her. So it actually is about the $$$. She was pissed she had to waste her anthem protest in a non international event. I hope she doesn’t compete and if she does I hope she doesn’t medal. If she does I hope Americans turn their backs to her: hating America doesn’t make you a patriot and it certainly doesn’t benefit Americans.

Agreed. More power to her if she wants to continue to speak out about issues that are important to her (even if she has some facts wrong, as she does about Ferguson...)

The thing she could do that I would find pathetic and duplicitous would be to turn around and complain about whatever consequences she may suffer for her actions, as EyeWitlessNews' quote would seem to indicate she has done.

If the issues are important enough to her to take the actions, the consequences should not matter to her. That's called integrity, and if she had it, I could respect her for it, even if I disagree with her position 100%. Fortunately, it doesn't appear that I'll be finding myself in that situation as far as Gwen Berry is concerned.
