WayneUrso, you're today's winner of the 'Keen-Grasp-of-the-Obvious' award!

Indeed, but sadly it still needs to be said, because not everyone has a keen grasp of the obvious.

Thank you! When I hear Biden say things like “No deportations for 100 days” and “Free health care for illegal immigrants” it genuinely scares me. And at the same time, I get really scared when far too many people seem to think this policy is somehow virtuous.

Sounds virtuous to me.

That's the plan of the NWO globalists who control the Biden administration.
Literally, Hunger Games in your future.

I mean, playing Devil's Advocate here.... But as a country (remember I agree with the meme), didn't we start off because of unwarranted immigration? Didn't we start as a country because people migrated here?

We are technically giving our history the middle finger by not wanting illegal immigration.

Devil's Advocate aside - yes, it will destroy our country.

In 2021, we can talk about how back in the days of the Pilgrims, they came to America without papers or passports. Ditto for the Spanish Conquistadors who largely took over Southern and Central America. But for the vast majority of the existence of the United States of America (which did not exist with the Pilgrims), we like every other country put into place rules for immigration.

A lot of people who talk about Ellis Island never mention those who were turned away for all kinds of reasons (no job waiting for them, they did not have a sponsor here, etc). Now I will admit that despite our having rules and regulations for immigration to this country, for the past several years those laws were ignored by both Democrats and Republicans. The Republicans wanted the cheap labor and looked the other way. The Democrats know that with welfare programs those who newly arrived would eventually vote for Democrats.

But the pendulum has swung. And the vast majority of Americans want stricter controls to be put into place on who enters this country. The 911 commission came to the conclusion that we needed to do this to keep terrorists out. And other people came to the very same conclusion for a variety of reasons.

It’s one thing to look the other way when people are pouring into this country. It is another thing entirely to stand at a podium during a presidential debate and have 100% of the debate participants raise their hands to say that they want free health care for illegal immigrants (while at the same time fining people who did not participate in Obamacare). Ditto for the other social welfare benefit programs.

We weren’t a country when we migrated over here.

That's why I said "didn't we start off" meaning our beginnings came with migration to a foreign land. Land that rightfully belonged to the people already there. That we stole from them...

Now, people are against illegal migration and mad that illegals are stealing their jobs. But we started off as a country by doing that to the people that were already here.

I agree that illegal immigration is a problem, I juat find it funny that we are boo-hooing over stuff that made this country a country.

But what changed was, and you are missing to see is, we became a country. And This is coming from someone who came to this country legally.

You don't think the natives had some system of ownership & settlement? Of who was in charge? Oh yeah. They had that.

But youre missing the point... We are crying about what made this country a country.

The natives didn't believe in land ownership

Coming across the border and asking for free stuff isn’t what made this country a country.

We came to this land - asked for food and understanding of the land. Acquired that knowledge from Native Americans. We tore down forests to settle, stealing land and resources from the proper people of the area.

Then we got mad that tea taxes were too high and formed a Country of our own. A country formed on the generosity and brutal killing of the people that lived here first.

Tell me where I'm wrong here.

“Proper people of the area” sounds like a radical deportation activist phrase to me.

The problem is you’re looking at history with 2021 glasses.
The Native Americans were not a unified country like the United States is today.
The Native Americans did not have illegal immigration laws like the United States has today.
The Native Americans had no foreign policy like the United States has today.
Small Pox is what wiped out 95% of Native Americans. That’s not to say that there were murders, but the vast majority just died from disease.
Just because the Native Americans were generous doesn’t mean the pilgrims asked for that.

Lmao - radical deportation comment...

Don't forget they were very warlike and went back on their deals all the time.

Tell that to the hungry that were fed - pilgrims & Plymouth rock... That's exactly what they did. Thats why America celebrates Thanksgiving.

They never asked for that.

The hell they didn't. They were starving, sea sick, low on rations & relied on the natives to understand how to eat and thrive.

And none of that was because the pilgrims told them to.

The Natives pitied them for choosing a swamp for a townsite.

& in doing so, started the formation of this country. Their niceness to foreign refugees devolved their society & destroyed their "country".

Which is why I agree with the meme & am playing Devil's advocate.

We are mad at people today, for doing what we did centuries ago. If the native Americans had not been generous and upset about foreign invaders like we are, perhaps we wouldn't be the country we are today.
0 ups, 5y
Ok. Don’t be like the Native Americans.

Also don’t be like illegals today who depend on every single thing coming from the government and asking for everything, unlike the pilgrims.

That's what Republicans said about social security and Medicare.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for border security - but the hyperbole like this is cringeworthy.

Who was the French Philosoph who said “once American citizens realize they can just vote to put more money in their personal pocket, this country will die.”
2 ups, 5y
It is always far easier to vote for a raise or a benefit than it is to work for a raise or a benefit.
