And 51% of those homicides are committed by 13% of the population. Do you know which 13% that is?

While I agree with your sentiment, that math is terribly wrong.

First off, it would be 0.010256410256% and 0.0008564102564% respectively. Not 0.00010256410256% and 0.000008564102564% respectively.

You’re still forgetting the percentage modifier which requires you to multiply the quotient by one-hundred.

I know it might not sound important but if you really cared about our government taking away our guns then you’d get it right.

Yes, but nonetheless it is still very low to die of firearm

Are you saying 1,628 to 28,800 lives don’t matter?

Because if they do, then you get the math right.

That’s not a hard ask.

I mean how about obesity and heart disease, how many people die from that each year in United States? Don't their lives also matter? What are you doing about it?

You seem to be operating under the delusion that I disagree with the premise and not the details. I could easily argue that you don't really care about our guns being taken away if you refuse to do the math.

So, how about you do the math before asshole libs decide you're too dumb to handle a gun because you can't modify a quotient correctly to get the correct fatality rate of guns?

But, sure. I'm the problem.
2 ups, 3y,

my argument is about life that matter. It seems like a silly thing to argue about, everyone is going to die at some point of another. The biggest killer of people in the US is not guns, but obesity. Yet no one talks about it because there is no political gain from it, or at least they have not yet found a way to.

And where did I disagree with that exactly?
1 up, 3y
I did not said you disagree, just bringing the point that if we are gonna care at the VERY small number of deaths from guns, we should care a whole lot more about deaths from Obesity and heart disease.

I never said that they didn't matter. But more people die from things like disease(not covid) and other things. And it inevitable that people will die. you can't stop that.
0 ups, 3y,
1 reply
Actually, yes. More people do die from covid than gun violence. Even if you're erroneously only counting 10% of the cases still.

No, but people can stop the manufacturing and production of guns. And if you don't do your homework, or your math, you'll be easily discredited and they will successfully convince people to take our guns.

So, do your f**king math.

So you just admitted that guns aren't worse than covid. You realize you just f**ked yourself there right? Covid has been going on for a long time, and I said OTHER DISEASES you dumbass. What about cancer, or Ebola, or the flu, or things like obesity? Obesity is WAY worse than gun violence. Obesity is one of Americas worst problems. All those damn Mcdonalds lol.
0 ups, 3y,

The only way I've "f**ked myself" is by allowing you to derail the debate to be about which being deadlier. Gun violence or Covid. Which, again, you're still wrong. Going by last year's stats, Covid killed 375,000 people while gun violence killed 32,000. So, logically, Covid-19 IS more deadly.

There have been many coronaviruses, sure, that are less deadly but you didn't say (not coronaviruses) but rather the shorter term (covid) which is typically the shorthand for the Covid-19 variant. And even if you were labeling all coronaviruses as "covid" then you'd still be wrong since coronavirsues predates the existence of guns. The most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of all coronaviruses is estimated to have existed as recently as 8000 BC while guns have existed since 1364 AD. And since modern medicine wasn't wildly used until the 18th century, I reckon that coronaviruses still have the higher death count overall. Still, just by going by last year (2020) alone, you're very wrong about Covid not being deadlier than gun violence.

Covid was the third most likely way an American died in 2020. Right behind heart disease and the number one most deadly disease Cancer. (The one disease that is still more deadly than covid.) As for how many diseases that are more deadly than gun violence, there are numerous ones. Gun violence doesn't even enter the top twelve leading causes of death in the United States. Most of them are diseases, sure. The lowest count at twelve is liver disease at an average 38,000 deaths. So, sure you can say gun violence is less deadly than most disease. You're correct about that. And only that.

But to get things back on track.

The math in the original comment that I responded to was wrong for simply forgetting to modify the percentile and doesn't reflect the true fatality rate. That was all I was arguing.

What you're hung up on is that I'm correcting someone you agree with. I have no such hang ups to correct people that I also agree with. So, of the two of us, which is the critical thinker and which one is trying to intellectually sabotage the argument?

This is how the liberals that want to take your guns away win.

By you being wrong on the facts.

Do your homework.

Get the math right.

Firstly, I never stated any facts or math, just my opinion. Secondly, do you not understand that you keep saying that diseases like corona are more deadly? According to YOUR research, corona is MORE DEADLY than guns by 343,000 more deaths. So, really you should be WAY more worried about getting rid of corona than guns. And I understand you corrected his math, but it was still less than one percent. And I hope you realize that. You can't stop people from dying.

"Secondly, do you not understand that you keep saying that diseases like corona are more deadly?"

Yes.

"So, really you should be WAY more worried about getting rid of corona than guns."

You can be worried about getting rid of both.

"And I understand you corrected his math, but it was still less than one percent. And I hope you realize that."

That doesn't make it right tho.

"You can't stop people from dying."

You can, actually. Just not forever.

So your saying your corrected math is wrong?

"You can be worried about both"

I used corona as an example disease. Your saying you can stop all of Americas diseases and guns at the same time?

"You can actually. Just not forever"

You meant preventing death, right? I'm saying that everyone dies at one point anyway.

They are not going to let a five year old have a gun. Also, a 5 year old is probably to weak to even hold the gun straight, and on top of that, the safety lock can be engaged. I think your being a tad overdramatic.

Also, the gun was for hunting game. “It’s a normal way of life, and it’s not just rural Kentucky, it’s rural America — hunting and shooting and sport fishing. It starts at an early age,”

I understand why you want gun control, but the government wants to have gun control because they think people will buy or take guns to kill with. Realistically, if you wanted to shoot and kill someone and get away with it, you wouldn't buy it from a store, they would track you. And it is pretty much law that you keep guns in safes with locks, so stealing them won't be an option either. And on top of all of that, this is a 5 year old. If he was older, he would be more responsible. I think the parent should have waited until the kid was 8 or 9, but that's the parent's fault not the guns fault. So bad parenting is the enemy here.

There are so many similar stories, though, involving adults who accidentally shoot a loved one or themselves. Many women are murdered by a spouse by being shot. Many suicides could be prevented if the person hadn't had a gun in that low moment. So many reasons why guns are bad. I've been hearing these stories about the government taking over for years. The conspiracy theories just don't make any practical sense.
0 ups, 3y
But without guns, how would people protect themselves? Also, if someone can accidentally shoot themselves, then they probably aren't qualified to handle a gun. The suicide part sucks, but like you said, with great power comes great responsibility. If someone is not responsible enough to wield something like a gun which is powerful, they shouldn't have one.
