You seem to forget that they make millions from royalties.

Who cares. They decided to pull it, not external pressures...it was a self reflection moment for the trust, and they decided to discontinue. So of they want to stop making profits off of subject matter that they themselves see as edgy, IT IS THEIR OWN CHOICE TO DO SO. SMH.

I would just add that it seems this isn't the first time they've censored their own books in one way or another.

I noticed that there are different iterations of a questionable image from " I Saw it on Mulberry Street" and it's text...

The original asian guy's skin is yellow and the text says:
" a chinaman who eats with sticks"...

A (probably later) version he is not yellow and the text says:
" a chinese boy who eats with sticks".

[image deleted] So, the Star-Bellied Sneetches book tells a perfect story about how bigotry operates and why bigotry is wrong, and the joy we can all experience when it’s ended. There’s really no better parable that I know of that can explain the concept so well even to children.

I feel like this story on its own goes a long way toward exonerating Dr. Seuss for some of his cringier illustrations.

Those 4-5 books, (and they weren’t any of his famous ones) can be quietly dropped without tossing out the entire legacy of this brilliant, iconic American illustrator-storyteller.
