You're right. And you're wrong. White men aren't one group acting in perfect solidarity. They are actually a group of many different ethnicites and cultures. Yes, some white men behave poorly. But some are also responsible for many of the rights and privileges enjoyed today. When you lump them all together, you increase apathy.

Whose hands would "the keys of power" been in that would make things different?

Why is it so hard to acknowledge that every Caucasian person is not your enemy? Doesn't that just increase hate?

Check the title of the meme that started the thread "Don't alienate your allies" - a little critical thinking shows that deadboxprime is on topic and you're trying to create a fight by being purposefully obtuse.

Bring it lefty, we ain’t going anywhere.

Yeah because Muslims are so forward thinking. Antithesis is the pinnacle of leftist idiocy.

Just helping them wash up.

If you believe what you read, we're supposed to wash our hands frequently to prevent the spread of the disease, right?

Yes. White men made the decision to give equal rights. Blacks and women did not make it happen, they started it.

Right history, wrong take

I can see why you might think that, and I disagree. The "white" folks of today are connected to the creation of inequality only by the color of their skin. Taylor Swift (random "whitie") had nothing to do with the creation of the inequality. She has an obligation not contribute to it and to call it out when she sees it, but in this she is no more obligated than anyone else.

Exactly! Not all "White men" were/are decent people. In fact many weren't. But many also are decent people. Broad brush comments like "I hate white people" alienate people who might be your allies.

and who made it so minorities and women couldn't vote in the first place?

"White" male colonists played a major role. I won't excuse that. Their error was corrected however. It is as wrong to deny that there are "white" folks who are allies and believe in equality as it is to deny that there are "white" folks who caused the in equality in the first place. That's what the meme is about.

well of course there's white allies, just like how there's white racists. But If My grandfather stole something from a family, and then I give it back, that doesn't mean their family should be thankful for my family. And even then, should those white men that voted for women and minorities to be able to vote be praised? Being able to vote shouldn't be a priviledge, it should be a right.
4 ups, 3y
I'm glad that you can recognize that there are white allies. There are a lot of folks who seem incapable of that. It's pretty hurtful to be an ally and hear your friend say awful things about people who look like you.

I agree, being thankful is probably going too far. Should they be praised? Again, I think that is going farther than I intended. I think it is enough to simply acknowledge that being "white" doesn't make someone a racist and that there are some "white people" who support because of equality.

If you were injured in a car accident caused by "white" driver, would you still thank a "white" paramedic for helping you, or would you just think it was their responsibility because of their job?
