Look, I get things have gotten bad. But don't you acknowledge that things were doing well before this panic happened?

Going into the 2020 election, the economy was easily Trump's greatest strength before Covid hit. There's no doubt it was in the best shape in a long time, especially for those with money in the stock market. But it's disingenuous to suggest the economy has not been headed in this direction for quite some time since the great recession in 2008. The graph I posted is just one piece of data that illustrates that.

The president is graded on far more than just the economy. On issues such as foreign policy, corruption, public trust and just basic human decency, his record is abysmal. Now with no plan to provide scaled testing and safely reopen the economy, he has tarnished the one thing he had going for him.

Okay, fair enough. And I get the market may have been in a bubble that eventually would have popped too.

Ehhhh, I disagree, Trump has been no where the disaster his huge detractors have made the case for but you disagree, that's fine. His actions now will probably be his greatest test. Now he has to lead and bring things back. Hopefully he'll lead a bipartisan effort, with the dems to get things back on track.

In the US, generally reelectability depends on the state of the economy.

Also, yes, a recession was on the way, but this current situation did two things:

1. Got it started prematurely and due to other circumstances,
meaning no one can pretend the fault can be attributed to Trump.

2. Economic growth can thus resume earlier,
which Trump will surely claim credit for.

So any market issues that folks might have been blamed on Trump can instead be blamed on nature or China instead.

Yes but how strong will be the incumbent aspect be? And sure, he'll spin it best he can. His opponents will spin it the other way. This just is hard to pin on any side. Besides China.

This might sink Trump, orrrrrrrrrr it might grant him a pass on account of being extenuating circumstances and he might pull one like Obama did with an unexpected surge of supporters in 2012 while Dems meanwhile decide to nap because everyone else will vote for them like they figured with Hillary in 2016.

You might have heard of this thing called "coronavirus" (aka, Chy-na virus) having an effect.

Oh, you mean "just the common cold," "less dangerous than the flu," "the new democratic hoax" that magically "like a miracle, will disappear in April"...? THAT Corona virus?

So Trump bears no responsibility for ignoring the continuous warnings from his intelligence briefings for months regarding the severity of this problem and disbanding the White House pandemic response unit in 2018? Maybe we should just ignore this administration's pathetic and negligent handing of this crisis that made the United States of America #1 in total cases and subsequent death that only continues to climb? Are we just supposed to give this administration a pass after two months of shutdown and sitting on their hands we STILL don't have a national plan to safely reopen the country? What about the nationwide systematic testing we were promised two months ago? Where is it?

Let's imagine this all happened under an Obama or Hillary Clinton administration. We'd be giving the same pass to them that we're giving Trump right now, correct? Just so we're clear.

Haha, yes, the media would be fawning over Obama's response, even if twice the amount had died from it by now.

Crazy how statistics work. Are you tired of winning? Cause I sure as hell am.

Weird that the unemployment rate always seems to rise under a Republican administration and drops under Democrats. It's almost as if trickle down economics doesn't work or something.

Or there was record unemployment until a world wide pandemic hit. What? Are you 16?

The lowest recorded unemployment rate in the US was 2.5% in May 1953.

Sorry, record Black and Hispanic unemployment. Now what? Any president would be negatively impacted by this virus.

Remember when Trump called on Obama to resign because there were 11 total cases of Ebola in the US? 80,000+ deaths and counting, more than any country and he calls it a great success story. But black unemployment hit a record low two months ago after steadily dropping since 2010. Let's give him a medal! While we're at it, let's also award the Atlanta Falcons the Lombardi for leading 28-3 after 3 quarters.

Yes, Trump said many inflammatory things back before he was prez. Probably the first future president to use it before becoming one. Resigning for Ebola tho? Sounds like BS to me.

Haha STILL not acknowledging the economy was doing great before a world wide pandemic stopped the economy.

Some people are capable of seeing the obvious. Others (heavy overlap with Democrats) choose to ignore it and believe their delusions:
