While gathering in large groups is certainly unwise when it comes to a virus easily spread in large numbers, doing so to pray to God (or at least a god) to eradicate disease seems way more realistic than telling a virus, "Hey hey, ho ho, Covid-19 has got to go!" Also, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that many of the people there don't have church online like western countries seem to be doing (my church included).

Agreed, relatively speaking, although praying to God/ a god doesn't require you to only do it in a group, especially such a large group at a time when we know its unsafe and unnecessary to do so.
