I knew there would be at least one, someone telling us how it's different in Canada. The difference is the conservatives are pretty silent on the matter, no bananas organising crochet sessions to make va**na hats for a march of protest or anything like that. No pussies overturning bins, starting fires, smashing glass and hammering peoples skulls with steering locks. Is it because Soros entities only pay certain affiliations to cause chaos and mayhem because they didn't get there own way. Or is it because conservatives don't generally choose to act like violent unhinged children who didn't get their own way ?.

There are several definitions, depending on context. The one I'm referring to, of course, is;

American liberalism isn’t Canadian liberalism, nor isn’t English, German, French, etc.

While there are certainly some overlaps, there isn’t a fundamental standard by which all countries define these terms.

What might be liberal somewhere might be considered conservative elsewhere and Vice versa. American liberals aren’t going to be outraged about Trudeau for any of the following reasons:

Ignorance, apathy, indifference, etc.

Have I seen conservatives whinging about Trudeau’s win? Yes.

But not because he won. But because he had used blackface and still won the election. It seems to me you’re pissed off that that wasn’t enough to disqualify him because it is a common tactic to disqualify an American politicians. You’re free to argue that that was was more elaborate and had other issues. Industrialization vs. agriculture. States rights vs. federalism. Whatever but the key result of the Civil War was abolition. The ramifications of that will continue to have reverberations throughout our political history for the entirety of our countries lifespan. We will argue and argue and argue and argue about it forever. Because some morons had an idea that exploitation was exempt from their moral obligations.

You can argue whether or not blackface is or isn’t racism. You can ignore whether there is a different context when one side does it too. Whether the politician’s reaction to it is relevant. Whether it’s hypocritical for the left FROM AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT COUNTRY to give this a pass. The question is whether or not you have a message or platform more compelling than that of the politician who wears blackface and wins than a politician who wears blackface and loses.

This surface level us vs them is dumb as hell. It does not deserve the outrage you claim must be equal when you deny equality at every turn.

I agree with one thing you said. Liberals do need to learn how the American system works and abandon the petty scandals that constantly derail the conversation of our counties real issues. And conservatives should lay off trying to make something out of nothing as well. Really it would be great if everyone could.

It's still an apples and oranges comparison. For one thing, the government that will be formed in Canada will have the popular vote - because it will be a government formed from more than one party, and if you combine their votes it will be more than the conservatives have.

The Canadian system is not perfect, and I would be willing to hear criticisms of it no matter which party they come from. And I have read criticisms of it not being as representative as it could be, and I#ve read those from both Conservatives and Liberals.

In the American system, losing the popular vote and still winning the electoral college is pretty rare. It happened five times. I think it can indicate that something is out of whack. It should at least mean that you don't have as strong of a mandate, but neither Bush nor Trump have operated as if that were the case.

I’m largely ignorant of the Canadian government and how it runs. I do think it’s a mistake comparing them to the US government and the meme fails to understand that liberal and conservative values are not exactly universal.

The system is entirely different. Trudeau needs to form a minority government with one of the other parties now.
