Good meme, Perspicacity! Too bad Progressives don't embrace facts! Got another chuckle out of AOC today...

Sorry, look up who had the most votes for all the civil rights bills. The Republicans have the lead on civil rights all along.

Nope, look it up, first black Democrat Senator, period.

Well yes. But I said perhaps they meant first black /female/ Senator?

What difference does it make if she was the first black democrat senator /at all/, no matter the gender?

The difference would be that they were saying she was the first black /female/ senator and not the first /black/ senator. A slight but major diffrence.

WHO is saying she's the first black female senator? That's something you haven't clarified, who "they" are. You're talking about "they" as if that made any sense in response to the meme.

I assume the Dems? We /are/ talking about how the dems supposedly claim the first black Sen was elected in 1993 or whatever?

I think the Dems said first /Female/ black sen. And you misinterpreted it as first /black/ sen.

Right?

I would assume it was self evident?

You're inserting assumptions where none exist. You may be right, but the meme says nothing about someone else making any claims, the meme-maker him (or her) self is making the claims.

Not to worry, took me a min or two to sort it out once you brought up the issue that he was responding to a dem claim.

The claim that the dems claim that the first black Sne was the fellow in the bottom and not thefellow in the top?

Exactly and I am claiming the dems said first /female/ Black sen and the Op misunderstood it as First /black/ Sen.

She was the first black /female/ senator of either party. But as Perspicacity pointed out, the main point of his meme, she was the first black /democrat/ senator, /period/.

From wikipedia:

"Carol Elizabeth Moseley Braun, also sometimes Moseley-Braun[1] (born August 16, 1947), is an American diplomat, politician, and lawyer who represented Illinois in the United States Senate from 1993 to 1999. She was the first female African-American Senator, the first African-American U.S. Senator for the Democratic Party, the first woman to defeat an incumbent U.S. Senator in an election, and the first female Senator from Illinois."

So yeah, dems get an extra point for her being female. Doesn't quite balance the score when it took them /123 years/ longer than republicans to have /any/ black senators, LONG after the so-called switch, not to mention long after the civil rights act was passed.
