Okay, so when I watch a disney movie if I am constantly being taken out of it by the movie saying something childish or dated then or not even having a good message I would not see it again. Moana was that movie for me. Watching it all I could do was cringe at the recurring jokes or the characters that were trying to be more than one dimensional but ended up just being their tropes it left me feeling robbed. Now Frozen also had some of these issues but if I was given the choice to watch either it would be Frozen always.

Moana is an amazing movie, and I've watched it several times already. Meanwhile, Frozen gets a resounding meh. The only good thing about it really was the CGI involved in her ice castle, that was quite stunning.

And let's not forget that most popular song from Frozen, "Let it Go". As portrayed in the movie, it's a song inviting girls to avoid any sort of responsibility, to do whatever they want, to leave disaster in their wake while they go off to live in a beautiful castle, and not care about the consequences of their actions, the aftermath that other people are left to deal with.

Yep, sounds like an empowering feminist song to me.

(And it doesn't even matter that at the end Elsa learns that's not a good thing, the end isn't what little girls are singing over and over long after the movie ends.)

All excellent points, never thought about the song that way but I did always think that it was pretty crappy that she just went off on her own, almost like an anti hero

The song doesn't mean that at all. It is (in my opinion) saying that she'd always been trapped in a box by people around her. No-one let her be herself and she always was afraid of everyone else opinions. When she realizes she isn't herself, she has to leave to find out who she is without everyone else bagging on her. Being alone helped her see that its only what you think that matters. She'd always been afraid of her powers cuz she thought she was supposed to cuz that's basically what her parents conveyed even though they tried their best not to. Being trapped she couldn't take it and lashed out. I know if I'm being pushed around and being told what to do i lash out. It wasn't her fault at all. She was just naturally reacting to the stress of being told to hide all her life. Say if you were upset about what someone said, you think about it and replay it in your head making it sound worse and worse. She basically had the same thing but 200x harder. For her whole life. Now i know it sounds cuckoo that im defending a fictional character, but im also saying opposite of what you said. I may not like feminist, i think they take it way too far, but I do know that you shouldn't just take everyones opinion no matter what. You need your opinion and she finallyfound her voice, She wasn't afraid of what everyone else said. Of course she also saw that she took it too far and shouldn't have blocked out everyone, but its still the message of don't let everyone else change your opinion, you still have a voice. Oh and Frozen is ALOT better than Moana sorry.

I'm kinda an in-betweener on this subject, both movies are awesome though.

I like both (as an adult that watches both for my daughters sake) but just see way more frozen stuff and feel its overrated.

Great point, if you ask me I like Moana more, the songs are much better and the animation is awesome.
