Don't be daft, capt. Our generation has made it utterly impossible to buy a brand new, gold plated Mercedes SL 9000 Double Hybrid Ultra right out of college, especially with the $200K of school loans we forced them to take to get their useless degrees.

We have a surplus of baby boomers. Back in the day, when jobs were available, the boomer generation ruined the economy for the up and coming generations by voting for politicians with terrible economic policies. The boomers also took away resources for future generations as a result of the high birth rates, hence the name "boomers". Then they turn the blame on the younger generations after selfishly destroying every opportunity that the younger generations could've had.

And exactly what did these "Boomers" do that destroyed the economy? It is very easy to blame someone else for your own bad choices, so let's see some specifics.

There are more jobs now than back before 1990, there is more gas and oil reserves, there is more technology, people are better educated, the overall standard of living is higher, all brought to you by the "Boomers".

As far as I'm concerned, I haven't made any bad choices that have landed me in trouble. I was raised in a family that were fortunate enough to be educated and come to America for a reasonable, well-paying job. I'm not blaming the boomers; I'm just stating the facts that have left Generations X and Y in a state of misfortune.

The reason there are more jobs now is because the boomer generation is reaching the age of retirement, and Gen X (known as the baby bust do to the low birth rates) have the bulk in employment, with Gen Y predicted to have the bulk in 2020. With the more oil and gas reserves, there are less resources for our future, and eventually less breathing space. The reason technology came around was because of some people born in the 50s such as Steve Jobs. However, the gift bestowed by Steve Jobs is mainly used by Gens Y and Z due to the time of Jobs' creation. The rest of the boomers, on the other hand, are now sitting around and complaining about how kids today are lazy because of the internet's capabilities. Also, I doubt there are many Gen Y individuals who can't change a tire.

As far as oil and gas reserves, reserves mean for future use. In the 1970's they estimated we would run out oil by 2000. So "boomers" saved your ass. They even estimate reserves are estimated to double by 2050.

As far as retiring, The population of the US is double what it was in the 1950s and but now there are more jobs than qualified people. So boomers are helping by retiring. What's your complaint here.

Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and most of the current innovators were all boomers and have enhanced society. The previous generation always creates for the next.

Stop blaming others. This current generation needs to stop whining. You are not a victim. Put your big boy pants on for god's sake.

As far as changing a tire, there I will argue with you. I have seen many 18 - 30-year-olds who can't change a tire or their engine oil, or even drive a stick shift. However, they do play a mean game of Fortnite.

"Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and most of the current innovators were all boomers and have enhanced society. The previous generation always creates for the next."

True. Most innovators of our society were baby boomers (Elon Musk is Gen X). However, most boomers aren't innovators. Don't get me wrong; I don't think there are many innovators among Gens X-Z either because innovators are rare in every generation. It takes the rare genius to innovate society in a nuanced way.

"Stop blaming others. This current generation needs to stop whining. You are not a victim. Put your big boy pants on for god's sake."

Tell that to a Gen Y person, not me (a Gen Z individual). I'm not blaming the boomers entirely for the depletion of resources, but am merely stating the facts.

OK, we got most of the BS out of the way.

Now, what resources exactly have been depleted by the boomers. Our air and water are cleaner and better than it was in the 1950s. There are more gas and oil reserves, there are more jobs, etc. What has been depleted?

More oil and gas reserves, less oil in the world; Water is a natural resource that has been depleted over time; and metals.
1 up, 5y,

Wrong, we have identified more gas and oil then we thought we had before.

Water, yes that is a problem, but not caused by boomers, but more by world population growth. In fact, boomers have cleaned up the water and air.

Metals, again wrong. We can now find and mine more aluminum, borax, iron ore, and other metals easier and cheaper than ever before, all because of boomers inventing better technology.
0 ups, 5y
Finding more aluminum and other metals doesn't mean it isn't getting depleted.

With technology more more fresh water is made available than ever before. Water is a constant and doesn’t get “depleted”. Yes there is higher demand for fresh water which is why there are new technologies used to create and preserve it. There are more mineral reserves on earth than you can imagine. It’s not like one generation gobbled them all up. And with recycling, there is less need to extract more raw minerals as demand increases. Sure, natural reserves might get depleted eventually but this will be due to mankind’s use of them as a whole. You can’t possibly believe one generation is responsible for it.
Your whiny rants are humorous and just add to the millenial stereotype of blaming others for all their woes.
1 up, 5y
I don't believe on generation is responsible for resource depletion. Still, the boomer generation is what left many generations jobless by taking the highest-paying jobs. This mainly effected Gens X and Y. The reason many IMGflip boomers here think millennials (referring to Gen Y, I'm hoping) are lazy and whiny is because the late 40s thru early 60s were a lucky decade to be born in, and jobs were easy to get. Employment was high back then because no birth rate went as high as when the boomers were born, and the boomers could take all that they ever wanted.

These were sources I used to find my statistics. Call them liberal biased if you want (I avoided using Vox), but I don't think three fairly-trusted sources would be linked together in destroying America.

I have heard, but not verified, that the lack of qualified people is a myth. Many qualified people go unhired because they are older and more qualified and co panies do not want to pay them want they are worth. Companies want some 25 year old kids with 30 years experience but no certifications so they can pay them like 17 year olds. Kinda like the NFL, everyone the super rookie until you have to pay him.

Why do you think everything gets more expensive?
Rhetorical question; it's because of scarcity.
Who made resources scarce in the first place because of rapid birth rates?
1 up, 5y,

While supply and demand is the main factor, it’s not the only factor. As the demand for things increases, usually the supply does too. Do you really think the cost of living would be lower if there were less people? Many of those baby boomers invented and perfected the things you enjoy today. They may also be the very people who birthed and raised you, so don’t complain.

Gen X birthed and raised me.

The cost of living probably would be lower if there were less people taking resources to begin with. I wouldn't say they would be lower than they were 50 years ago, but they would more likely be lower than they are now. Supply for most of the resources that make a car go, or make a car work, isn't renewable.
1 up, 5y,

And your grandparents birthed and raised your parents. So blame them.

Centuries ago there were less people and the cost of living was low (relatively). But the Mortality rate was higher and lifespans were shorter. In comparison, your generation can live a higher standard of living sooner than your ancestors did and you’ll live longer to enjoy it than they did.

Mortality rate is higher, I won't deny that. Doesn't mean I'll grow up rich and prosperous like I'm told I can do. Just means I'll live to be 100 years and be poor while it happens. Maybe Generations after Gen Z will have a happier life (because I can trust Gen Z more than the others). Also, my grandparents didn't live in America.

Oh, so only Americans are depleting resources?

You won’t even know what living in poverty is like, unless you get hooked on drugs or something and end up living on the streets. But keep on whining about your doomed destiny:)
0 ups, 5y
The baby boomer generation hit America the most. The USA is the only that really makes this generation thing up, really. I don't think I'm doomed, either.

Your overuse of the word "whining" is reminding me of me, overusing the word "boomer" to describe the quality of memes on IMGflip. Again, I don't believe the boomers are completely responsible for the mass draining of resources; they couldn't control the birth rates. I can't separate Americans by the generation, though those born between 1998 and 2005 have a lot more self-awareness. I mainly use the word "boomer" to describe the memes here, if anything. I intend the meaning for it to refer to one who misuses memes in a way that it's really an old person just trying to be hip and trendy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkNL_cfVyWU

Who cares, though? I'm just an insecure, whining millennial who has nothing better to do in her life than pick fights with people online, when I could be getting a job making business decisions for a company and getting rich off of other peoples' hard work after about 50 promotions.
