You can't have laws without morality. That's what law is based on; morality

In theory, perhaps. I don't think it takes much imagination to come up with examples of laws that are immoral. Ideally though, laws are the outside enforcement of common moral beliefs.

Morals are the very reason why laws are a thing.
Any "immoral" law is probably due to a politicians crooked sense of morality, which is still a moral code

The purpose of laws is not to enforce morality. It is to protect individual liberty and protect individual liberty from undue interference. Unfortunately, historically laws have been used to enforce morality over protection of individual liberty. For instance, laws against prostitution. Assuming everyone involved in the transaction is a consenting participant, it is none of the government's business.

Whose morality? Morality is not something you can define with absolute certainly, maybe for you but not something that can be applied to all.

Absolute morality is a factor of religion. With absence of the Church (like what we see in the West), uniting morality can only come from the law

*absence of the Church in mandatory personal life

No, various religions say they are the origin of absolute morality. I could say that about myself but it doesn't make it true. It is the lie that religions spread and some fall for it.
1 up, 5y
I didn't say that. I claimed that the Church has a uniting morality. I don't care for your views of the morality of the Church, or of religion. It's not that relevant to my point

That makes absolutely no sense. You cannot enforce morality, because mortality is in the eye of the beholder so you have to have some system of government that works for all. If you have morality as your laws what do you get? Usually history has taught us a religious dictatorship and that never works out well for anyone.

Hello JimboTexas, I thought you may like to join me and a few other ImgFlippers in a chat forum outside of the comments section. It is a free and still has similar anonymity (if you choose) as ImgFlip without the restrictions of the comments section. This chat forum was set up to be able to actually have productive conversation and was setup and run by two fellow Texans. A direct link to the chat room is here ( http://palringo.im/imgflip?r=11484447 ). Otherwise you can download the app called PalRingo.
If you'd like to learn more about it in ImgFlip, we can discuss it in our Stream called BeyondTheComment ( imgflip.com/m/BeyondTheComments ).

So you’re against laws?

And therefore you are against police who uphold them.

Good luck with that.

No, the creator of the meme probably meant that laws should not be the basis of morality/laws should not dictate morality
0 ups, 5y
No, human made laws are what allows us to have civilised society and change over time. (Slavery used to be legal ya'll). We cannot use religious scriptures or interpretation as a basis for the rule of law for the simple fact these books are outdated. (There are many other reasons of course)
