Gentlemen of the jury: The best friend a man has in this world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name, may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has he may lose. It flies away from him perhaps when he needs it most. A man’s reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us, may be the first to throw the stones of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads. The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog.

Gentlemen of the jury, a man’s dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fierce, if only he may be near his master’s side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come from encounter with toughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wing and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

If fortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless & homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of his company to guard against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes the master in his embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death.

Sorry to hear your sweet little dog has passed. I wish all our animals would have a longer stay with us. The only thing we can do is to give them the best life possible. You did that for Daisy, and she did it for you too.

I feel your pain. I have experienced the loss of a dog as well. Before I was born my Mum had gotten a boxer named Buddy. I loved that dog. We played around for hours on end. Unfortunately he had developed a sort of infection similar to cancer in his leg. We had to put him down. Coincidentally, my father, who came up with the idea to get the dog (who would move to Wyoming later that day after a divorce) left with him to put him down. Hopefully Daisy will accompany Buddy in chasing squirrels, rabbits, and birds, and barking at trees in Canine Heaven. Rest In Peace, you legends.

Buddy- March 4th, 2001-September 21st, 2015

Daisy-February 1st, 2007-August 27th, 2018

I'm sorry for your loss. I know the feeling as I have had 3 doggies die the last few years. I had a scare recently when my dog Carter's face was swollen twice it's size. I was scared, but it seems he swallowed a bee or wasp and was back to his normal self within 2 days.. I will hug him twice, one for him and one for yours..
reply

Thank you....and I’m so sorry for the loss of your 3 doggies. I’m glad Carter is still here with you. Give him an extra extra hug for me.

Daisy was raised with our cat Casanova. She would walk along the back of our couch, like that silly cat, pivot and pac back and forth. That was quite the sight to behold has Basset’s aren’t known for being graceful and agile. She was an amazing part of our family and a very unique dog.

Very sorry for your loss. I know it's heartbreaking. These are our two. Shamrock is 15 now, and we know his days at are numbered and we dread him being gone. At least we have Clover who is pretty much his literal clone and us just a year and a half old. They both get hugs, kisses, and snuggles all the time :-)
reply

They are beautiful!! Spend as much time with Shamrock as you can...you’ll never regret it. No matter how much time we have with them, it is never enough. My girls Daisy and Lucy love/loved hugs, cuddles, kisses and cuddles.

RIP Daisy Mae,

Even though I do not personally believe in the concept of Heaven, I still believe that dogs, cats & all other animals go to a very special place, an eternal playground, because they give us so much joy & happiness, where they play around to their heart's content, until it is time for them to come back into this world again.

@Mother_Baker: I empathize with you deeply for the loss you have suffered.
