GOOD TO KNOW, WAS IT BEING SOLD BY A PRIVATE SELLER SO WE DONT HAVE TO SHOW ID? | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

I've heard of this supposed "loophole" but I've never been to a gun show where a background check wasn't required to purchase a firearm. How many have you been to where a background check wasn't required?

Pretty sure that people have to at least show ID, I didn't buy anything cause I didn't have the money to but it's still fun to browse, there was even someone who was selling antique Fireares that had a 26mm Pistol (technically a hand cannon but still)

Nope... no id. no bk check required. Isis is pleased.

Not a mass shooting but not something to brag about either.

https://thinkprogress.org/for-the-sixth-time-in-one-week-man-shot-at-gun-show-5ba96b2a8621/

For What it's worth, I usually focus more on child abuse leading to escalating violence and abandoned inner cities as a more important way of preventing mass shootings than gun control.
3 ups, 6y
That'd certainly help, but some gun control, even the most basic forms of it, should help too. It's not the only solution, but it's the most effective one. However, cracking down on child abuse is a great idea, mass shootings or not.

Because the space station is just totally full of guns, right? Stupid comparison. If the point that the spaces in the nation that have the MOST guns have 0 gun violence flies over your head, we can't help you.

Why would anyone want to shoot their customers and their fellow militia members? Bet there aren't very many black or middle eastern types at those shows, either. And I don't think most vendors are going to sell loaded merchandise.

Gun Shows are the equivalent of al Qaeda terrorists walking right onto the airplane while law abiding citizens wait in the TSA line!

At over 5,000 gun shows each year, in 32 States, criminals and terrorists are allowed to purchase firearms from private gun dealers without an ID or background check. Although many dealers at gun shows are federally licensed and therefore legally required to contact the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NCIS) to ensure that a prospective purchaser is not prohibited from possessing firearms, private sellers have no such requirement. This dangerous “gun show loophole” has allowed criminals and terrorists to legally buy and sell guns in the US on a cash-and-carry, no-questions-asked basis for years. The following are just a few proven and frightening examples of how terrorists and criminals have bought guns undetected at US Gun Shows.

A manual titled, “How Can I Train Myself for Jihad” was found among the rubble at a training facility for a radical Pakistan-based Islamic terrorist organization. The manual contains a chapter on “Firearms Training” and singles out the US for its easy availability of firearms and states that al-Qaeda members in the US can “obtain an assault weapon legally, preferably AK-47 or variations”. Everything you just said is false. Quit spreading lies. It's ignorance like this that make the uninformed believe this type of nonsense.

Firearms and Military Training Urged in Pamphlet. In addition to urging would-be holy warriors to prepare themselves for jihad physically and through martial arts, the pamphlet notes the advantages the United States offers for firearms training and advises readers on how to exploit them:

"Firearms training differs from country to country....In some countries of the World, especially the USA, firearms training is available to the general public. One should try to join a shooting club if possible and make regular visits to the firing range. There are many firearms courses available to the public in USA, ranging from one day to two weeks or more. These courses are good but expensive. Some of them are only meant for security personnel but generally they will teach anyone. It is also better to attend these courses in pairs or by yourself, no more. Do not make public announcements when going on such a course. Find one, book your place, go there, learn, come back home and keep it [to] yourself. Whilst on the course, keep your opinions to yourself, do not argue or debate with anyone, do not preach about Islam....You are going there to train for Jihad, not call people to Islam."

"Useful courses to learn are sniping, general shooting and other rifle courses. Handgun courses are useful but only after you have mastered rifles."

"In other countries, e.g. some states of USA, South Africa, it is perfectly legal for members of the public to own certain types of firearms. If you live in such a country, obtain an assault rifle legally, preferably AK-47 or variations, learn how to use it properly and go and practice in the areas allowed for such training."

"Respect the laws of the country you are in and avoid dealing in illegal firearms. One can learn to operate many arms legally, so there is no need to spend years in prison for dealing in small, illegal firearms. Learn the most you can according to your circumstances and leave the rest to when you actually go for Jihad."

Wow, so a country that encourages people to be well trained in firearms is "Jihad Friendly" in your book.

You sir, are a moron. Don't bother replying, there's nothing to be debated here. Thank you for playing.

Because no one from the NRA is walking onto a plane with loaded weapons and shooting it up.

Because you can't get a gun from a dealer without an ID and background check. That's a lie. It's false.
0 ups, 6y
That's not entirely true, either.

"Known as the 'gun show loophole,' most states do not require background checks for firearms purchased at gun shows from private individuals -- federal law only requires licensed dealers to conduct checks."

http://www.governing.com/gov-data/safety-justice/gun-show-firearms-bankground-checks-state-laws-map.html

As for the NRA, I'd avoid using it in any argument. They aren't a guns rights agency as much as they are a lobbying group. Of course they won't shoot up a plane, it would make the NRA and guns rights movements look bad, and it's a generally f**ked up thing to do. Just because someone owns a gun doesn't mean that they are going to shoot up a plane. But there are far too many people who have been able to get ahold of guns that they end up using for murder.

By that logic, just because nobody's ever nuked a nuclear bomb factory (or wherever the hell nukes are made) means that the nukes aren't a problem when somebody nukes somewhere else.

See the problem?
2 ups, 6y,

Actually, your example proves one of the gun supporter's points... Ever consider why nukes haven't been used against anyone ever since multiple nations had them? It's called mutually assured destruction. Multiple nations having nukes keeps other nations in check. Imagine if only one nation had nukes and their intentions were bad; they could destroy any nation in their way. It'd kind of be like only one person having a gun in some sort of "zone" that was free of other people having guns.
0 ups, 6y
I know what mutually assured destruction is, and if nobody had nukes in the first place, it wouldnt be a problem. And it's a lot easier to take away guns than it is to take away nukes, so that disproves that argument.

MAD is in place because it's hard, nay, impossible to trust other countries to discard of their nuclear weapons, while with guns, the government just has to ban them, or certain types of guns, or regulate rather than get rid of them.
