As a kid, there was a show on Nickelodeon called Zoey 101. It's about a white girl joining an all boys boarding school. That was the first time I was exposed to feminism, because she thought she was so tough by joining boys activities.

No. Females CAN and always have been able to do anything males can. It just hasn't always been allowed. The fact that you think there SHOULD be something exclusive to males is actually quite troubling.

I think it's a good idea for both males and females to have something exclusive. NOTHING wrong with the GIRL scouts, or the BOY scouts.

I can only assume you are not referingvto direct employer pay (which is crap), but tips. I have issue with the tipping system as a whole, as it makes an employees wages dependent on the whims of the customer. It also allows for racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination which are supposed to be protected against. Waitresses often are expected to flirt with customers. In any other position being expected to flirt for extra pay would be construed as sexual harrassment.
1 up
Expected? No. If they so choose to flirt - solely for their own benefit, mind you, not the restaurant or any other workers - that's on them. They're adults, and it's sexist to believe they are that ignorant of their rights and the law. That those who toil harder doing the actual work (unless the wait staff serve as well) have to hope for a meager 0% - 20% of the tips as determined and doled out by waitresses. Such would not be accepted if they were women, and as in many places, American.
In my own experience I've never witnesed any such flirting, and we got the world represented in restaurants in NYC here.

I hate to imagine what would happen to a waiter who even tried to flirt with customers. He'd be arrested and sued for such harrassment.

"Make the effort"
It takes more effort to restrict entry than to let them in.
If you're referring to occupations where physical requirements have been eased to allow more female entrants (i.e. firefighting) i agree, that is wrong. Some women could meet those requirements, and should be allowed. But requirements should not be changed to allow women in.
(If you're going to try and argue having a p**is counts as a "requirement" you're just being facetious.)

If a woman makes more than her husband, she does pay alimony after the divorce.
Women should be subject to the draft (though admittedly not as many will make it through boot camp)
To become a firefighter women should have to pass the same evaluations (ability to lift, endurance, ect.) as men, without special accomodations. More women than men will fail these, but those women that can should not be denied the opportunity.
Girl scouts has already accepted trans members, and will soon follow boy scouts lead of allowing the opposite gender-boys (but fewer boys will be interested, because it is not as good as *no longer boy* scouts.)
reply

Despite those rare exceptioons, women in divorce proceedings are heavily favored by courts in terms of alimony and child custody, and property. My personal fave was a plant nursery I used to go as a kid with my mom, run by this elderly couple. Their son inherited it, and when he got divorced, his ex wife got the place.

There was a case decades ago where a court had to force the local fire dept to accept women. After they got hired, they claimed the equipment was too heavy, the tasks too strenuous, and were given easier positions normally reserved for older firemen no longer as in great shape. Those men were then instead fired. Granted, was years ago, but as today's military women who what they do is restricted for similar reasons...

I was a Scout and it's not sad for me. I think it's a calculated matter of survival for the organization.

My son is a Cub Scout. One of the Den Mothers brings her daughter to almost every meeting, almost every outing. The girl is not in a scout uniform but she might as well be and I wouldn't be surprised if she is next year. I don't think any of the scouts in the Pack would mind at all. Maybe just some of the parents, who are free to enroll their kids and participate, or not. So many great lessons for life in scouting, people who don't like the change can take it up with BSA HQ or join up somewhere else. I heard a lot Mormons are pulling their boys out because of recent changes at the BSA.
reply
9 ups, 1 reply
That's been the common consensus, that it was financial. However I've heard good argument that a lot of the past political moves by scouting contributed to the financial woes. I'm more in the camp that the digital age has been the bigger distraction and LAN parties would go a lot farther to boost membership.
reply
5 ups, 1 reply
My kids are hooked on devices, I have my own addiction there too.

The Scout pack we're in does have one night a year LAN party. I think my son likes the camping trips just as much, if not more. If there is a Scout outing we're not participating in, it's usually because we're on a family weekend trip of our own.

My daughter outgrew Girl Scouts a couple years ago, I don't think she'll be signing up to be with her little brother anytime soon. She does tag along for some of the Scout outings when it's fun though. Next year I'm going to get her introduced to the Civil Air Patrol.

Adverse weather and wildlife can easily do you in. I've come close to hypothermia a couple times under winter rain and snow. I came across a mother bear and her cub unexpectedly once in the Sierra Nevada, I backed away slowly and that worked. They say a mother moose and her calf are about as dangerous as that. Also there was that one time Bigfoot was stalking us :)

And I agree it is pretty stupid. I'm guessing the left is how this happened?

I wouldn't put full blame on the left as much as the BSA's gravitation to being "progressive" is a contributing factor. The digital age however I would argue being a bigger factor as kids are drawn away from outdoor activity.

Having not been a big part of it, I'm probably not entitled to as much opinion on this subject as I have. That being said I think it does matter that gender lines are disappearing and kids are being taught that those lines don't matter in a society where a pat on the pat can misconstrued as sexual assault.
reply
7 ups
I don't like gender-based discrimination, double standards, or any of that stuff.

I also don't like the thought of a society where everything is considered sexual assault.

So, as a (mostly) decent, (mostly) sane human being, I appreciate the former part of that but don't appreciate the latter. Upvote.

And the answer wasn't just reforming the girl scouts, I guess.. Not really a surprise though, anything that's male-only is hunted down and purged these days. Female-exclusive groups are not only okay, but greatly cheered on. However, if there is a male -only organization, it's misogynistic and evil and must be changed or destroyed.
reply
0 ups
Black schools were not as good as white schools. Clearly reforming the black schools was the answer, not integration. (Just in case it isn't clear, this is sarcasm. Obviously integration was a better answer. Also I want to make it clear that I understand that school integration was a larger and more important struggle. That was basic education, scouts is an extra curricular).
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
What is it about the idea that "separate is inherently unequal" that people refuse to acknowlege. Even if girl scouts had the same activities and programs, there's still the issue is when and where they have thier meetings. There are several boy scout troops near me that happen to have meetings on my day off, but the nearest girl scout troop is one city over and meets on a day I have to work. So my son could be in boy scouts, but my daughter would have to miss out? That is inherently unequal.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
I love how you only see the equality issue when it pertains to your daughter. If a parent lived in that town one over with a son that then couldn't make it to a boy scouts meet, he does NOT have the choice to join the girl scout group. You see this as equality but are wilfully ignoring the fact that it is NOT equal. One organization is gender-specific, the other isn't. That you can't see this makes you a hypocrite of the highest order. As far as integration of black schools.. if you actually see this as even being similar, I feel sorry for you. It's absolutely nothing alike. That would be like saying black schools before integration taught you one set of skills while white schools taught you another. Unequal education != different curriculum
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
When did I EVER say that girl scouts ahouln't accept boy members? I fully think they should.
As for school integration, you seem to be saying that they were equal because they had the same curuculum? I'm not following your logic. Are you saying schools should no have been intergrated?
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
No, nice try, though. I'm saying that the problem you seem to have is that girl scouts and boy scouts do different things. Black schools and white schools taught the same subjects, but one recieved significantly more attention and funding. It's not even close to the same situation, and to try and play it off as such does a disservice to the integration of schools, tbh. If this was integration there would be no boy scouts OR girl scouts, and just a scouting organization for both. That's not the case. What happened is another male-only organization was force to accept female members while female exclusive groups continue to not have to accept males. Some universities have been doing the same thing with frats. Gotta let the girls in, but sororities can stay female only. I'd have no issue with a merge of organizations, but to see all the male-only ones dying off due to social pressure while the chicks for some reason get a free pass doesn't seem right.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
First of all, using the "no boys in girl scouts" is a strawman arguement. No one is against intergrating girl scous as well, you're arguing against a point NO ONE is making.
Second, you're arguing that since girl scouts and boy scouts are even more dissimilar than black schools and white schools, that justifies keeping them separate and even more unequal? If they are not even the same in substance (not even funding), they are clearly unequal. How is that not blatant discrimination against females?
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Arguing for more seperate and even more unequal? You must have some sort of comprehension problem or you enjoy putting words into peoples' mouths. I'm guessing the second because you've done it every reply so far. First trying to imply I'm racist, now going for the misogynist route.I'm done with you.
0 ups
I pretty much repeated what you said, but asked you to justify it. But I'm the one with the comprehension problem?
I never accused you of being racist, just pointed out that the exact same logic applied to race exclusion as opposed to gender exclusion would be.
But I did accuse you of being a misogynist, BECAUSE YOU ARE!!!
How else could you explain the blatant discrimination you advocate against women.
