You fail to realize that I am a legal concealed carry holder and responsible gun owner myself with a military background who is comfortable with guns and works with and around them all of the time. While you're hiding under a table, I'll protect us both! :) What is someone with a gun doing in a bar in the UK anyway if you don't have gun crime?
See, the problem isn't 'guns'. There are far more illegal firearms on the streets than there are legal and taking away the legal ones will simply leave the only guns in the hands of criminals. As a matter of fact, the vast majority of gun crime is committed with illegal guns, but they don't showcase those as they disprove their point.
We need more properly trained and responsible people carrying them and yes, I am all for not only requiring stringent background checks and a requirement for training in order to possess any firearm and specifically higher requirements for regular training and proficiency testing for concealed carry holders like myself. I shoot often and enjoy shooting, so telling me I have to shoot isn't going to upset me. The ones that will complain are the ones that wouldn't be responsible without it.
If you'll notice, these people never target an area that there is a high possibility for someone to be legally armed there. Since those of us who are law abiding citizens actually follow the rules, only those who don't care about them have the power in these gun free zones.
