The lady in the picture is Kitty Werthmann. She is a WW2 survivor who lived under Hitler's reign in Austria. Hitler also wanted the people he took over unarmed. And like some people on here, and everyone else against the 2nd Amendment, Hitler's enforcers wanted to stop crimes and gun violence. Or that was the narrative the people got told. And we all know what happened to people under Hitler's rule.

Your meme makes me think of this one I found on Google.

No, that is not my argument. My argument is the one Kitty said. That if Austria had kept their guns they could have fought to keep their freedom. And in the event a modern dictator rolls around, we will have the ability to fight.

The Second Amendment is not to defend ourselves from our own government. If our government becomes tyrannical it will no longer be our government that our country was founded on. Such a government would have to do away with the Constitution and everything. At that point fighting an inside takeover coup like that would be no different than fighting any other enemy force. The Second Amendment is to defend against a tyrannical takeover like Hitler did in WW2. It is to defend against riots in the event of an economic collapse. It is to defend against the home invader intent on taking everything.

The point of your meme is that governments have satellite weapons and other advanced weapons. So having guns to defend against them would be useless? And we might as well hand in our guns since they would be useless against all this immense weaponry? That is your argument?

So by that logic the Police are screwed with their little handguns. They should just give up now.
New recruits in basic training should no longer train in basic marksmanship because rifles are useless with all this advanced weaponry.
And we should be able to steam roll isis, al Qaeda, Hezbollah and every other islamic jihad group.
Let's take it a step further and assume that North Korea launches all their WMD's. The US and our allies responds. China and Russia defend NK and respond like wise. At that point no one will give a dusty rat's ass if Bruce Jenner is not regarded as a true woman. No one will care about Trump's tweet. No one will care about sexual harassment allegations against a politician that happened 10 years ago. Yes, by that point a lot of things, more than just guns, will be useless. And the list goes on and on.
If that is your argument, that we should give up our guns because they would be rendered useless against all this immense fire power? Why not do away and give up with everything else that would be just as useless against a missile? That argument is just a flimsy excuse to give up. The notion that the Second Amendment should be done away with because governments have more advanced weapons is a fallacy.

If not guns, what else will mass murders kill people with? Knifes? Axes? Chainsaws? The answer might be home-made guns, which could be dangerous even to the shooter. But in my opinion, we should have all the guns we want. Then, it would take an idiot, or mental person to rob a house/store, or kill people, because they're is going to be at least 2+ people with guns of their own. But that's just me.

I personally like the idea of a world without guns (partially because of violence, but mostly because I like swords). However, I don't think that erasing all guns from existence is possible, so the next best thing is making sure everyone has what they need to protect themselves in a world with guns (or at least is allowed to have what they need to protect themselves).

Drugs are illegal too. Nobody does drugs amirite?

It just depends on the product. There are lots of drugs and even more guns in circulation than hand grenades.

There are people with hand grenades, but to acquire them legally or illegally is expensive and they're not very practical for criminal or recreational purposes.

It's very hard to kill someone with a banana, so Americans have decided that dead kids in school is acceptable risk for people to have semi automatic weapons. Americans need to wake up, a joke of a president and more dead citizens since 1945 from gun murders that all the wars fought by America combined in the last 100 years. Madness!

Actually I got it wrong, it's gun deaths since 1968 and ALL wars since America was founded, but that just makes it even worse. Islamic State doesn't need to kill Americans, it just needs to open a gun store and the Americans will do it for them

Gave both of the references a read and what I found interesting is that both refer to "gun related death" statistics. However in the nbc story, it rolls into reporting on the Vegas mass shooting, but "gun related deaths" are correlated from homicides, suicides, legal firearm use resulting in death, and accidental firearm deaths. I may have even missed a few, but the numbers are not from just homicides (ref: CDC). Just seems kind of leading talking about mass homicide but referencing all those other "firearm related deaths" as homicides. Something else interesting was the comparison of vehicle related deaths vs firearm related deaths. It would be an interesting comparison to medical malpractice deaths.

I think if you looked at deaths by vehicle rates, the rate in the US per capita would be similar to that of Europe or any other developed country. However when it comes to gun murders, then the US is the huge outlier compared to those places. Statistically you are ten times more likely to murdered by a fire arm than in any other developed country.

In gun murders per capita, America's company is South Africa, The Philippines and Uruguay. Even places like Mexico and Costa Rica are below the US

Bad stuff is always going to happen. If a person is determined enough they'll find a way to kill people.

The Orlando shooting and the Sandy Hook shooting would have ended early and more people would have survived if they were armed and could have defended themselves. Your comparison is inaccurate. Guns aren't a disease.

Vegas, not so much. He was a one in a 1/4 billion kind of guy though.

That's a bit of a silly thing to say, if mass shootings happen in say Canada, Europe, Australia they would get reported. It would be huge news! It just doesn't happen, anyway I did some research. In the UK the last one was 21 years ago and before that 31 years ago.

http://www.bbc.com/news/10216955

It seems the Brits despite speaking the same English as Ameircans don't go on gun rampages against their fellow citizens. (it might be the gun laws)

Here is the US media's take on why the UK and Australia don't have such massaces

Check out Mexico's gun control and the murder rate there. Some of the toughest gun control laws in the world and their violence is spilling over into the US. Or you could just spend some time in Brownsville, McAllen, Laredo, El Paso, Nogales, Yuma, El Centro, or San Ysidro and see for yourself.

Have a look at Chicago, that alone proves tougher gun laws do nothing but causes more gun violence victims. And if you do your research you'll find similar results in similarly regulated areas.

Yea protecting your property is worth the deaths of 10's of thousands including kids. Hey here is a thought, have one gun, one long one short for home protection, and leave them at home. Unless you are hunting. its not rocket science, get rid of assault weapons designed for war. period.
reply

This scenario ( https://youtu.be/z1tsXWMWiAU ) is not property and did not occur at home. And assault weapons are already extremely regulated. An assault weapon is any firearm capable of select fire (firing at a rate other than semi automatic) and not based on how it looks. The "black rifle" designation AR stands for Armalite Rifle and not assault rifle.

No I have not been to prison. I forget the name of the mobster, but in school we learned about this one mafia guy. He went to prison a few times and he said the second time was nowhere near as rough as his first time. But that was after some changes have been made in prisons. And considering how people still care a great deal about the perps, I doubt prisons got any worse. Three hots and a cot :D

I agree, death is too good for him. A swift death anyways.
"Besides, killing people to show other people that killing people is wrong. is well...."
Hypocritical? Yes, it is when you point it out like that. Morally wrong? Yes, it goes against the Ten Commandments.
That is a valid point you brought up that really questions one's morals. This seems like it could lead into a discussion like my dad and I have. My dad is a Christian who is die hard on the whole turn the other cheek, do not over come evil with evil, etc. etc. You can imagine the arguments we have had. Have you watched the A-Team? There is an episode called "Semi Friendly Persuasion". The leader of the peaceful group is like my dad. While I have the thinking of the A Team.

Anyways dylan storm roof wouldn't be killed to show people that the act of killing is wrong. It would be to show that someone can not ruthlessly murder innocent unarmed people and get away with it. (It is not the fact he killed, it is who and why that his killings was wrong.) And it would be to quell any future punks like him from committing similar crimes. Like with **pe. If the perpetrator had a public and painful execution, I believe such crimes would drop. People like roof, they think they will go down as a badass who killed a lot of people. His name will be feared forever. Similar minded people will begin to idolize them and will want to copy them. But when their "legacy" is no longer about the media making them out to be a monster, giving them a larger than human persona, and instead is replaced with their cries of fear as they shit themselves knowing they are about to be painfully executed, followed by their bloodcurdling cries of agony. I believe that will deter more from following in his steps. Read Dr. Haha Lung's book Mindfist, it mentions some about the mindset of bullies and mass shooters.

Assault by firearm is the 10th most likely cause of death in the USA, with the odds at 1 in 300. Not particularly helpful by itself, without some context. The kinds of things that are more likely to kill you include heart disease, #1 at 1 in 6, cancer #2 and 1 in 7, stroke, #3 at 1 in 28, and suicide, #5 at 1 in 115.

The funny thing is you don't see mass shootings or widespread gun murders in "sh!thole" countries but is a uniquely American thing in a so called "developed" country.
reply
3 ups, 1 reply
Americans do everything bigger and better.

Did you know the sh*thole countries that big T supposedly called out have the highest rates of violent crime?

We may have 1/3million people willing to kill a hand full of people, but we're still nothing like shithole Haiti. Over there 1 in every 10,000 people die of murder (that's twice as much as the US), 14% of women are **ped (350x the rate of the US) and their culture allows for what is basically child slavery, most of whom are girls that are considered "there for that", meaning sex. Child sex.

Go ahead and defend places like Haiti while you hate on your own country, Slimeball. Leave if you don't like it over here, you're ungrateful and naive and you'd be eaten alive in a shithole country.

And yes, I checked the numbers this time. Do it yourself if you don't believe me.
reply

I'm not going to defend Haiti, that place has many, many problems some of which are self inflicted and I'm not a Yank either, I'd be disappointed to believe that anyone thinks I am that crass.

Plenty of nice places in the States and plenty of sh*tholes as well. As for bigger and better, for most of the world now America is a laughing stock. That's a real shame as America could be a force for good in the world but it has sadly lost its way.

Amarica is a laughing stock because the media is willing to destroy its reputation to help the dnc regain its power.
